as a personal thing, i would take off the collision and comprehensive. ffs, you drive a civic, anything you do to involve the insurance, doesn't matter if you're at fault or not, your insurance will go up. there are those rare, RARE, R A R E cases where if it's your first, it won't but i mean those are like a solar eclipse. we drive civics people, especially if youre driving the older ones, its a hell alot cheaper to fix it yourself than to get insurance involved.

^^^ good advice i gotta agree taking off the theft and collision reduces your premium by a lot. if you do take off theft though remember to install some kind of anti theft device because as everyone probably already knows civics are generally easy to steal and targeted more by thieves

i personally prefer an immobilizer of some sort. (ie fuel cut off switch).imo, those fancy led lcd car alarms are useless. only thing good for is warming up the car in the winter.

I heard there is some sort of switch under the steering wheel where if you disconnect it, the only way to start up your car is to hold it down and turn the key after.. true?

also, i just need to ask my insurance guys if i have that collision/theft thing?
what else can i take off my insurance to have it lower?

thankss =]

This is completely false Alex.

If you are not at fault it does not effect your insurance premium.

Honestly, if you want your insurance this low, don't drive. You cannot afford it, clearly.

Living at home making nearly 2000 a month... paying under 500 for insurance... hm...
Why do people assume?
How do you think I can afford to pay for a cat-back exhaust kit, front end suspension parts, soon to re-build the body and re-paint it?

=/ I dunno bout you guys but I got a piggy bank for my spending on toys

and wouldn't you agree saving a couple bucks here and there is always a good thing?

No, I don't agree.

Your civic is old, so yes I agree what Alex (Purplestuff) said about taking off collision and comprehensive coverage. Collision, yes, on an older civic is a waste of money, so sure, you can save the $10 or so per month, but comprehensive coverage is important, in my eyes. It is theft, vandalism, hail damage, etc. coverage and you literally pay, about $8 or less a month for it. You drive a civic, about it seems about 10 of them are stolen a day in Toronto and the surrounding area. No comprehensive coverage means you get nothing when it is stolen. If we get a hail storm and you have 300 little dents in your car… you going to pay for those dents to be removed and your car painted? Comprehensive claims don’t affect your insurance premiums. Meaning, if you were to put a theft or vandalism or hail damage claim in, your insurance will NOT increase. This type of coverage is beneficial and costs close to nothing.

If you actually take a look at your insurance papers you will see a breakdown. It is the accident benefits portion of your coverage’s which is costing you an arm and a leg.

I would just hate to see lower your coverage's and then 3 months down the road create a new thread saying "civic was stolen" ... see it happen all the time.

If you can afford all these toys, then pay for the insurance, it comes along with buying a car

if you are living at home and make 2000 a month you should be able to pay 377 a month no problem. The way you put it before it sounded like you were broke and couldnt afford your current rate

There is not much you can do to lower your insurance much more. There are only 3 things you can do that will lower your premium a lot

1 put your car under your dads name
2 get an address outside the gta
3 do not get full coverage , just one way

Seriously i wouldnt complain too much if i was you. I ve seen people older than you with G license paying over 300 $ . Like I said , i had to pay 400 a month when I started , suck it up , thats just the way it works. Why do you think many people your age take the bus ??? , hell , even people my age are riding on the bus nowdays.

Also get used to your insurance premium going up every year. Its not like before where every year it went down , my last 3 renewals were an increase in my premium . I went from 140 to 180 and this year to 240, and I have a clean record with a g licensed for 9 years.

My dad has a much better record than me and his insurance still goes up every year and he is paying like 200 $ for his van. So 370 is a bargain considering you have not experience, you are young, you have a g2 , and you drive a civic

I could buy a covertte if i wanted right now , but I can not afford insurance , it sucks but thats the system .... You can always ride on the bus

i think location plays a huge part too since you got quoted 370 with belair and i got quoted 410 with NO COVERAGE

i called dejardins and they said 319 with comprehensive

keep shopping around try AVIVA they were cheaper than bel air for me but not as cheap as dejardins

I think it's whatever the rep wants to make out of you, don't they make comission? haha
Either way, I was just curious cause there's a lot of things i'd like to do and that little bit could help down the road.
