Dropping insurance prices?
anyone know of ways to decrease insurance?
other than being a student, G licenese/experience? i think 379 is a bit overkilll o.o;; |
dropping coverage or putting only third party liability is something you could do
|
shop around
I got my renewel with td for 250 a month , from 180 , no accidents or tickets. So i shopped around and found bel air for 150 , same coverage plus first accident forgiveness |
I'm also 20 years old and only a G2 license, Desjardins was my best price, everyone else was like 300dollars more, including bel air and td(which was 400 more)
|
i was paying 400 , 19 g and with a g licensed
377 is actually not that bad , considering insurance prices are going up , you only have a g2 and not much experience You can always put it under your parents name and be a secondary driver. Or worst case scenerio , get an address somewhere outside toronto where insurance may be cheaper. Friend of mine has his insurance in sudbury where his dad lives , even though he lives in mississauga and he is paying a lot less... But , it is always risky if they find out .... I know tons of people doing that though ... Again 377 is not bad for your age and experience. I m 27 , g licensed , clean record and most insurance quoted me 100 less than you a month ( except for bel air at 150) |
That's also only 1 way coverage
|
desjardin is one of the cheapest companies. trust me. ive been with them (also personnel insurance under desjardin) and theyve been very good in dropping prices. i went from 575 when i was 18 with g2 and now im down to 250 and to be renewed this may... yea. 575 with an 87 accord. thats crazy... so whatver they were quoting u... its not bad

Area and car/model are huge factors. And obviously driving history.
If I put my car as living somewhere in the boonies ill be paying peanuts. |
i'm with bel air, and pay 261/month.. 18yr old male with g2 (can't get my g yet) with drivers training. thats on my ej1
|
probably because your in waterloo though^^
|
Register your current living address somewhere FAR away from GTA.
but yes, shop around. TD raised my insurance for no reason on renewal, gave me some sob story about some bs health benefits...long story short from 220 to 400 a month...got it lowered to 375 after bitching and getting G licence. So started shopping around and though TD didnt know about my tickets, the price was the same at other companies with the tickets. WTF Was gonna drop TD out of principal but most companies that offered insurance for slightly less [around 350] wanted to look at my car. Which is a big no no... |
haha i totally understand... i see.
in my opinion it's pretty soft since they only offered a 10% discount if i get a full G license... pft, 30 bucks. i live at yonge and clark btw. just north of toronto =.=;; |
I'm currently paying about $158/month on a 2000 civic SiR, full coverage. But I'm 28, live out in the country (north of markham) and have a clean driving record (FINALLY!!!! lol).
Your age/location play a big role. Also DO NOT get ANY tickets. Drive responsibly and your insurance will go down over time. It takes a while. You typically don't get any insurance breaks until after you're 25 and older. Be patient and drive safely/responsibly. Most young males pay through the nose for insurance. I used to pay $300-400+ when I was your age. Nothing unusual. That's the way it is. |
Location plays a huge factor like already said. Registering your address to more North is insurance fraud and your insurance company can cancel you if you get caught, however, the probability of you really getting caught is slim. North York, Toronto, Scarborough, Thornhill, Markham, even Richmond Hill are all quite high when breaking down the territories for pricing.
Another factor is age. The less experience, the more the insurance. There is nothing you can do there. If you have your G2, get your G, 10% is still a discount. You mentioned you're a student, so with most companies that is another discount. Also, if you did driving school that is normally another discount. Is your car registered in your name? Try registering it in your parents name, that will help out. Also, you drive a civic, insurance is going to cost 30x what you paid for your car. It's the price you pay to drive, what is classified, as a street racing vehicle. Insurance companies aren't stupid, they know it will be modified, they know it’s your first vehicle and they know you are male.... chances are, you aren’t going to behave on the road. Best thing you can do, is start calling ALL insurance companies for quotes. None of this getting a quote over the internet, it isn't always accurate. There are a ton of insurance companies and they are all in the market to get your business. So there are some competitive rates out there you just have to find them. Asking people what they pay is a waste of time. Different insurance companies have different rates for different people. What I pay will not be what you pay. What your neighbour pays will not be what you pay. Drive responsibly and don't get tickets. Tickets suck. I would know :) |
ah I see, car is under my own name, parents don't wanna deal with it, haha...
as for tickets.. are parking tickets included? cause thank god i got my stickers til 2012 cause i probably have like 7 outstanding un-paid parking tickets... if I fix up my car would insurance drop price? or raise it under the suspicion of racing? |

I didn't mean to say your insurance company thinks you are racing your vehicle, I just mean, insurance is based on statistics male + civic = high insurance there is nothing you can do to your car that will lower your insurance premium, SOME companies offer like a 5% or something like that discount for winter tires..... If you can't afford insurance, don't drive the car, or don't drive it in winter, park it for half the year and only drive it in the summer. Honestly, you should plan on paying high insurance premiums for the next few years. There is a major insurance crisis happening in Ontario and it won't be fixed anytime soon. We, being Ontario, pay the most for insurance out of all provinces in Canada. I don't even want to suggest this BUT, ugh, your insurance company has your liability coverage at $1,000,000 the legal requirement in Ontario is $300,000. Decreasing the liability will decrease your premium. I do not suggest doing this. But meh, your choice. Your insurance company will fight you not to do it but in the end the decision is yours. |
it's true that i don't need to worry bout them ticks until i want to renew sticker right?
do they add interested constantly? or that 1-time crazy bump from 30 to 135 or something |
get your g first. that will drop your insurance alot, and being even a co-driver on your parents will make a difference. parking tickets have nothing to do with insurance. say you don't drive alot (ie 10-15k a year) and car is parked in your own garage, and you have winter tires. say youre a good student in school (if you go to school). school does help with insurance. if you can't afford insurance right now, don't get it. you'll still have at least 40 years to pay for insurance.
if you're working part time, good luck. cause your monthly income, almost all of it will go to insurance, and the rest to gas. |
