drive a car into your house - who covers the damage

Help settle a dispute with a coleague:

Let's say a person carelessly drives their car into their house, and causes damage to both the car and the house (their car, their house).

Would the damage be covered under home or auto insurance?

First hand experience preferred.

auto ins would cover the car
house ins would cover the house

usually home owners have the same ins. company for house and car, so same company. But if diff. I agree with szuberi, and boy is that person fcuked!

no one is f-ed.. it hasnt happened..

we were just not sure if perhaps the whole thing might be covered under the home-insurance, as it is an accident that happens ont he property..

for example, what if you were to cause damage to your property using a machine other than a car, basically an uninsured machine.. would home insurance take care of all of it then?

house is covered, machine is your own problem. But it would depends on what machine it is and if it was yours.

if a person was to drive into someone's house and it was their fault then the persons CAR insurance company will cover the damages up to a limit say 1 million. AFTER that you will have to collect the rest of any damages remain to be repaired or costs incurred via your insurance company that is placed on the house. IT WILL not go against you on your policy as a claim (which means the insurance premium doesnt go up). However you also have the right to go after the individual him/herself if they were impaired (ie. drunk/high etc) to collect any funds and sue them for personal crap
