does this make sense

I'm in the process of changing insurance companies (I'm off my parents insurance, and buying a new car), and every insurance company that I call is offering me really high rates because I had a 15km/h over the limit ticket in January...

does this seem right that they can use this to charge me 2-3x as much?

xxSLiMxx 07-Nov-2007 03:22 PM

yes they can, insurance companies in ontario suck nuts!

from my uunderstanding they don't look at how fast you were speeding just the fact that you were speeding

ol Dusty 07-Nov-2007 05:30 PM

It's true, they don't really care what you did, just how many times you been charged with anything, i was nailed with 140 in a 90 and careless, both were bull**** i know i was pulled over when the officer lost sight of the car he was after (i know it's impossible to get confused between two white eg hb's) because in the diclosure, the car he was after got on the highway on a diffent ramp then me. problem was my word vs. a cop. I tried to fight it and they offered to go 119 in a 90 and then drop the careless to failure to signal. here's the point. following high $ legal advice i asked to get 125 in a 90 and drop the careless completely. here's why. 119 = 3 points, and failure to signal = 3 points, doesn't matter when they chage you with two infractions only the greater of the two give you points, you still get two fines AND two lines on your record, 125 = 4 points (they go away after 2 years of the date of the offence, eat up a year just by fighting it!) but I only got one line on my record. The number of lines on your record is more significant to the rapists we call insurance companies.

Cool, thanks for the input....insurance in this province is pure garbage...

I ended up finding an acceptable rate, but required some extensive shopping...

Cynikal.Mindset 08-Nov-2007 11:46 AM

to get the best price for anything requires shopping around

Where did you find it? I'm looking...

Then I would pass the ownership to your parents and continue to insure under your parents until your ticket record expires. Drive careful so you don't scratch your parents' record while saving money at the same time.

seems about right, insurance companys are always going to give you a high rate at first.

Its mostly dependant on your age, once your young and have a ticket your flagged.
