First off, the issue of officers being paid overtime does not apply to all jurisdictions ... it all depends what municipality the issuing officer is employed by. Secondly, the "trick" of requesting an adjournment in order for the officer not to show up is successful by way of sheer coincidence ... if it just so happens that the officer was called out to an emergency at the EXACT date and time of your trial, then congratulations! It should also be noted that prosecution has the right to request an adjournment based on the officer's non-attendance much like you have the right to request an adjournment because of schooling conflicts. BTW, if your adjournment is granted and a new trial date is set then that date is set in accordance with the officer's platoon schedule and he is notified of the pending date ... the courts do not give out "random" court dates that conflict with the PC's work schedule. Just my .02 ... good luck.
