Daytime running lamps fog lamps

IN Canada Daytime running lamps arrive on new vehicles the 2007 Ford focus
has the D.R.L. in the low beams at half brillance The fog lamps can be switched on in the park lamp position by a seperate switch action, B.C regulations say we can use fog lamps alone or low beams in unclear weather
( not together is implied)
In the fog lamps position the tail lamps are lit with the D.R.L. however we
get the D.R.L. operated with the headlamps at night so we have low beams when we want fog lamps alone which will not allow us to meet Vehicle regulations and we want to use the lower fog lamps alone

so we have federal D.R.L. regulations that prevent us from meeting provincial regulations

we cannot see any reason why people should drive around in night time with the fog lamps operating with headlamps due to the added light light from oncoming vehicles and the added glare in the rear view mirror's from vehicles following behind

any similar comments

Keep in mind that cars are not usually built to each country specifics. So whats allowed in bc is not the same as ontario or any other province or state in US.

Good point though.

Thanks for the comments it would appear we need to improve regulations on most highway systems not sure when the Us mandated DRL from factory delivery we have aprox 15 % older vehicles without D.R.L .

Ms. Christy Clarke Premier of B.C Feb 09 2012

as a retired Licensed B.C. M.V. inspector we ask your assistance in Having a order in council put in place update to the current Motor Vehicle act regulation # 4.11 controlling the installation and use of fog lamps on vehicles .

Reason for the request for update is related to improving highway safety in B.C
the regulations currently do not allow or require the Police to issue citations to people who switch on their vehicle fog lamps and never shut them off, this cause a problem in
the night time when the weather is clear and there are no fog or atmospheric conditions that requires the use of fog lamps and using the fog lamps adds 100% more light for the eyes,s of the approaching motorist, Because the Low beam headlamps are also lit

Please have the following words added to section 4.11.4 which will read as an addition
4. (A) operators of vehicles may not use fog lamps with low beam beam headlamps during clear weather at night time due to the added light from fog lamps shining into the eyes of oncoming motorists, and or shining into the rear view mirrors or vehicles being followed
Suggested citation fog ignoring the 4.11.4 (A) regulation update $ 75.00

in the U.K and Australia this regulation has been in place for many years

we have been in touch with Motor Vehicle inspection in Victoria and they have referred us to your office

I have attached a copy of the response from the Vehicle inspection office in Victoria

Your attention in this matter will be appreciated and we will all gain by the improvement
to Public safety on the Highways in B.C
