yeah, I'm just hoping that he just won't show up,the whole process of going to trial sounds very serious and complicated and I'd rather not go for it. I hope something good comes out of this because I have to drive all the way from waterloo and back.

username, are you sure they record the plate and report it down, it seems pretty odd that they'd get the wrong car if they did that. I think they were using a laser not a radar, but the highway was very busy, there were cars on both sides of me.

what happened to me when i went to the court was the judge wasn't there yet and some lady sitting on the other side asked me if i wanted to plead guilty, not guilty, or guilty with lenience. i told her absolutely 100% not guilty, i think she was pissed i didnt say guilty with lenience thats the only time you don't get ****ed at all if the cop doesn't show up.

Yes, it's the same when they do radar/laser from a plane, they still record the plate. They are also in contact with the officer stopping the cars: "Red Honda approx 1km, behind grey Mazda, 5 cars from you, 4 cars, 3 cars, 2 cars, 1 car. That's him".

There is procedure that has to be followed, or "supposed" to be...

I know a couple guys in Peel, and that's how it's done.

If they used Radar on the highway, you might have 1/2 a chance, but if they use Lidar, you're effed. The beam of the laser is about 1" at 1 km, but radar is about 2 m.

Well, one, you can't do radar or LIDAR from a plane because the cosine error effect alone would make any speed readings useless. Radar/LIDAR is most accurate when the beam is directly in line with the vehicle whose speed is being measured. Any departure from that line either vertically or horizontally will result in exponentially decreasing measured speed.

Two, Peel does not use aircraft to do speed control on the highways. The OPP does, but not in Peel region, at least not yet.

Good call on the plane info. I did know about the cosine effect, same reason you can't get a reading from a 90 degree angle... My mistake

However, I know Peel will radar from an overpass, or 2/3 officer setup where one is on the radar and another is making stops. I know they also do speed monitoring from aircrafts in Markham. Sorry if I implied (which I did) that they do it in Peel. What I meant in my other post should have only applied to ground units, of course.

UPDATE: Went to court today, the cop wasn't there so it was thrown out!!
What they told me was, your case is withdrawn because the officer has been "excused". What does this mean?

thanks guys for all your help.

I'm pretty sure the demerit points are only there from the date of conviction, not the date of the ticket.

they don't know about the ticket untill the conviction but they know about the day of the ticket. I had a fromer officer rep me in court and he said the points were from the day of the offence. I was faced with the option off more points and only one line on my record or less points and 2 charges resulting in two lines. regardless the longterm it was better to take the points and 1 charge but two years after the offence date my insureance went down. It still hasn't been 2 years since the conviction. It was barely even a year after the convition as my case took so long to go to trail.

Go to the mall and get your driver's abstract. It will say "Offence Date" and "Conviction Date". If you take it to court and get convicted 2 years later, you see both dates. The demerit points you GAIN from that offence stay on your record for a full THREE years from the CONVICTION date. Your insurance company cares about conviction date, and number of points you GAIN....

By the way, for people that think you "lose" points, check out the definition of DEMERIT.

Did you turn 25 when the rate went down? Did you have other convictions on your record? Maybe they went away and that's why the insurance went down?
