CORRUPT? WTF!!! Got a ticket today!

ok guys. i just got a ticket yesterday for apparently rolling through a stop sign. The officer actually followed me for a little bit and then pulled me over. I did stop at the sign because someone was crossing the road and i waited and i was just a few feet back from the line. I know he couldn't see me stop cause there is a pretty large hedge beside it and he was quite a bit of a ways up the other street. He probably saw me run through it, but that was as i was taking off.

he hassled me about what i had in the car, just asked for my license and not my insurance. he went to his car for like 5 mins and then came back with a ticket. He said he didn't want to, but he's going to have to give me a ticket. i previously explained to him that i stopped and then i was taking off and thats what looked like me rolling through it. he said to me:

"Look, I don't want to give you a ticket, I just need to meet a quota. Don't worry about it".

I was like wtf? I asked why he was giving me a ticket then cause I did nothing wrong. He then said:

"Look, just go to court and fight it. It will take so long to get a court date and I will be busy with other things then. Don't worry about it"

I took the ticket and just went on my way. I am going to fight it and take pictures to show that the officers view was obstructed by the hedge. I live around the corner and have never seen them there, so I don't think its a common spot.

Well, sorry for the novel. any advice or help would be advisable. Thanks guys.

holy crap. i'm keeping a voice recording device in my car from now on. can you imagine how bad the police would look if the public heard your conversation. giving out tickets to the innocent just to fill a quota? unreal man. that cop should be canned.

Don't quote me, but i'm pretty sure that it's illegal for the police dept to have a quota. They keep stats on tickets to determine staffing needs. Some forces actually do have a recommended number of tickets they want their officers to fill each month...kinda a quota, mostly to make sure those coppers are actually doin something.
It suxx abt yer tic dude...I got nagged like that once. Thought I stopped good enough, even saw him sitting up the street!!

don't worry about it then...he basically told you to book a court date and he wont show up = case dismissed and you win

he probably just had to get a certain # of tickets and he gave you one to meet what he was told to get.....but he seems like a nice guy telling you all this if your not bullsihiting soo...dont' worry about it, book your court date asap

i always thought cops have quotas to make sure they work...
anyways, your ticket is not that bad anyways because you know that cop won't show up for sure already.... its like he is saying "hey if i show up in court that day, i will waste several hours that i can use to meet my quota for that day".... so he knows you can fight it off... but i guess the problem is... you will have to pay a court-fee no matter what which is unfair to you, because you're losing money just so the cop meets his quota and keep his job! just set a court date... you'll be fine

hmm... gotta follow up on this by someone who has more experience with tickets... two of my buddies was involved with 3 tickets... once was exhaust, threw away but court fee paid? one time was a rolling stop... threw away... court fee paid.... hmm... in what circumstances it needs to be paid?

that's why i thought its like a service charge even if you don't order something... hahahhaa....

there is no set quota for cops in toronto at least, but they are expected to write some. the way it works is the sargent looks at the platoon as a whole and if someone is much lower then the others for the month they get a talking to. parking enforcement officers have a quota, but its low only 30 tickets a shift.

I had a similar experience when I reaer ended a cab. The cop said she HAD to charge me...and the only thing she could find in the HTA was wreckless driving.

She was like: "I don't want to give you this, but I don't know what else to charge you with. Do you know anybody in this field?"

Me: "You mean a cop?"

Her: "Yes"

Me: "No"

Her: "Well, I suggest you speak to one to find out what your otions are with this ticket."

Basically, she charge me with wreckless driving and told me to go fight it. That was after she told me I had to be charged and the admitting to not knowing what else she could charge me with.
So now I have a court date in November.

you got a ticket, and the cop pretty much told you to setup a court date and it will get thrown out, because he/she won't show.

whats the problem?
