Collision Coverage

Just wonderin if someone could help me out here.
I'm lookin for ways to save a few bucks on my insurance...

Insurance is a lot cheaper without collision on, and i was wonderin, if i take that off my policy, what am i getting myself into?

What sort of coverage exactly do i lose? I just want it off for the summer, but can anyone educate me on this part of the insurance???

thanks!
nathan

Collision coverage us for an accident which is your fault - if you say, rear ended someone or turn left in front of someone, you will be held at fault and will need collision coverage in order to get your car fixed - If you take it off, the only way the insurance company will pay for any repairs to your vehicle is:

a) you have an accident where you are hit by someone and you are held not at fault

b) your car is stolen, vandalized, you get hit by a flying object or you hit an animal (these things are covered by comprehensive coverage)

It should also be noted that if your car is hit in a hit and run, and you have no idea who hit your vehicle, if you have no collision, you have no coverage ... hope this helps

How ironic, CTV just had a spot on this.

Some lady trashed her truck and found out that she didn't have collision:eek:

Not good. if you trash your car you can kiss it goodbye

are you sure .... I've never heard of that .... The very definition of collision is anything that you strike that is either on the road or in contact with the road ... and comprehensive is anything else other than collision ... What company??? A hit and run is considered a collision as its another vehicle striking yours.... the only reason it goes under collision is because they have no idea who hit you - If you had the insurance information of the other vehicle it would go under your liability coverage (also known as Direct Compensation, Property damage) .... I'm not sure how they went about covering a hit and run under comp.....

well here's what happened I parked in a legal side fo the road spot and left the car (I went with a friend to get stuff) we came back later that night and the front fender was bashed in...

I have insurance with the personal and was told it was under comprehesive since I didn't get the other drivers info (hit and run, I wonder how they expected me to do that) and I filed a police report that night (I was pissed and wanted everything on record since I was legally parked) I don't get it sometimes but I was told comprehesive was what the accident falls under.

I can honestly say that only The Personal is doing that ... every other company would cover that type of loss under collision .... Comp is for everything else but a collision with another vehicle ....

I'm an adjustor at the personal, and i can tell you that hit and run goes under collision..ALWAYS....if you get the third parties information and we can confirm liability with their insurance co. then we can proceed under direct compensation property damage and you dont pay a deductible....which adjustor told you it was Comp?? i know everyone at the company!
