Question Clear Blue License Frame

Hey ... Just wondering if anyone know what's happening with the clear blue license frame? Are those illegal to have now?

Yes, anything that makes the letters even remotely more difficult to see will be ticketed by cops. I'm sure that blue/tinted frames will get you a ticket eventually. There's a clause in the HTA that states:

"Obstruction prohibited

(3) The number plates shall not be obstructed by any device that prevents the entire number plates including the numbers from being accurately photographed using a photo-radar system. 1993, c. 31, s. 2 (5). "

The funny thing though is that these things are being sold at the Ministry of Transportation centres.

I figure clear frames are OK but I had a cop tell me once that ANY type of license plate frame cover is illegal....dont know how much truth there is to that but i guess cops these days are always finding ways to hassle you.

I took my license plate covers off (blue) this morning. Tmak was tell me a story at the meet yesterday of two of his friends getting ticketed for them in the same day.. I wouldn't risk it.

I have smoke plate covers and have not had any problems, I think as long as they are clean it should be OK. I've been pulled over three times since I got them and no issues with the plate covers, only issues with the heavy foot.

the plates are sold at crappy tire and other places so they cannot really be illegal but then they can give you trouble for no reason if they want to be ******.

cops just claim that it affects photo radar and the 407 cameras and therefore it is illegal.

Just because they sell them at a store does not make them legal, and that is not much of an excuse in court. :working:

I believe the company that makes them has a disclaimer saying for off-road use only. Buying at crappy tire is no defence....but having the receipt from the ministry of transport showing the purchase...well there's a case.

i think the radars or those cameras on the 407 works even if you have those covers on. i have the smoked ones and i got the bill from the 407.

I know ... I get my 407 bill all the time and never have any problems ... so I don't know what's the big deal ... I think some police just has way too much time on their hands.
