To get a new date for your trial you or your representative has to go into the court before the trial date (I think it's 5 business days before, but i can't remember specifically), you go to the administration counter and they give you a form which you must then submit to the prosecutors office in the courthouse. You then get a date in court where you appear before a judge and explain why the original date must be changed. Then you get a new court date. This is the procedure that I had to follow at the Old City Hall courthouse about 4 years ago for a speeding ticket trial. It was scheduled during my exams for university but I didn't have to present any proof of that.
