hi, i got a careless driving ticket today. What happened was today i did a left turn inside a neighborhood. That area of the road happened to be very icy and snowny because they dont plow there. my car started drifting abit so i just gave it a bit more gas to get moving and i ended up doing it successfully. But either way. 15 mins later a cop pulls me over saying someone called saying " someone called complaning i was driving careless and almost hit someone and ran over there lawn" this is all false. but either way he thinks i was trying to be cool or something which is bs. He wasnt even at the scene either. He told me to stay for a bit, 20 minutes later he comes back with a $375 ticket for "careless driving" . on the ticket it was also checked " no witnesses" . So any suggestion? what can i do? go fight this? just get a court with explanation? or what. get a lawyer?? please help..

I would fight it. I fought my Careless driving ticket back in 96. I ended up with a unsafe move, 2pts, and zero fine.

When I went to court the officer didn't show (OPP), BUT there was someone in his place. My lawyer tried to get the careless dropped, but the crown wasn't going to do it. The only thing that saved my butt was a suit & tie, hair cut, fresh shave, and polite & proper respect shown to the judge ie. The last words out of my mouth were "'your Honour."

The guy before me was pissed that he didn't get his speeding ticket dropped. Then again he showed up to court in dirty jeans & t-shirt that had "BIG JOHNSON" saying logo.

How can a cop give you a ticket for careless driving if he didnt see it. and puts no witness's?. so this means I can just call the cops are say I saw someone speeding.. so give them a ticket?. something sounds very weird.

most of them time if your speeding or doing something stupid you get warned or get a letter in the mail saying you've been spotted doing something.

the ticket will get thrown out.
request for disclosure and walk into court and throw the book at him. the cop can give u a ticket but doesnt mean it will hold up in court. chances are he wont show.

ya u should defenitely fight that one, thats bs if he wasn't even present and stated that there were no witnesses.

A lot is going to depend on what he told the cop who ticketed him. You can be convicted on the basis of your own admissions even if there are no other witnesses.

But, in this case there certainly were other witnesses, because someone witnessed something and then called the cops providing them with enough information that they were able to accurately locate the car and driver involved.

Better get a lawyer. One way or another, you will end up paying for your "drifting" play.
