Car stolen!

Hey guys,

my car got stolen this morning!
I can not fu####g belive it!

I was parked right in front of the house!

I thought my parents were playing a joke on me, but no, it really is gone.

Just picked up a set of SiR rims from SomeAsunGuy 2 weeks ago and was gonna get new suspension in a couple of weeks, and boom! what a pitty ...

it's a blue sedan '97 Civic EX, bloor & islington area in etobicoke.

IF anyone hears anything please let me know.

Here's the sad story for the day ....

BaRbiE 01-Apr-2003 01:00 PM

Sorry to hear about that ..

BOND007 01-Apr-2003 01:05 PM

Sorry to hear Bro , I hope they find it :(

diesel 01-Apr-2003 01:06 PM

man, that's sad. sorrie to hear that

evgenk 01-Apr-2003 01:34 PM

Thanks guys
Just got a call from the cops.
They found the car ... all stripped.
my rims, stereo, speakers, all cd's and all the stuff from the trunk is gone ....

how would you guys recommed I should go about talking to the insurance company about this ?

should I insist on getting them to write off the car ?
or just get it back and get the compensation for all the **** that was stolen ?

thanks !

diesel 01-Apr-2003 01:35 PM

did you give them any of the receipts?

[1sL0CiviC] 01-Apr-2003 01:45 PM

how much approx did u spend on the car that is non-movable?
eg. rims, stereo, bodykit, paint?

NOT what ever was in the trunk ( claim that from home insurance if the items stolen are more than your deductable, if you think it is worthwhile )

depending on the company, and if you got receipts and/or pics, you may be able to get some money

sorry to hear about it though.... my car was stolen, stripped, and unrecovered for a lil over 2 months.... i know how u feel :(

Insuranceman 01-Apr-2003 03:00 PM

as said above anything that was not permantly attached to your vehicle will be claimed under home insurance .... good luck with your company and Pm if you have any questions

imported_My Blue Si 01-Apr-2003 03:25 PM

sorry to hear about that man, hope these assholes get caught one day and get their hands sliced off

evgenk 01-Apr-2003 03:33 PM

thanks guys!

ok, so I should claim the deck, speakers, wheels, whatever interior they stripped through my insurance company.

and all the stuff that was inside, like CD's, toolkit, etc. has to be claimed through home insurance ?

can I not claim it through my ins. company ?

my car was parked on the road, beside the house, not on the driveway though ... does that make any difference ?

thanks for your help guys! :D

re

bastards if u find them do what i did drag them from the back of ur car to the cops

Insuranceman 01-Apr-2003 06:09 PM

It doesn't matter where you parked it, just make sure you tell the truth ...... If they catch you in a lie they have the right to deny the claim ..... and yes, if you have items in your vehicle that are not permenatly attached to the vehicle like, tools and cds, they have to be claimed through your home insurance, subject to your deductible ....

evgenk 01-Apr-2003 07:13 PM

hehe ... there really is not much to lie about, and there's no point in doing that ... considering the risks involved.

but thanks a lot for your feedback !

I am still very mad, and the adjuster never called me today so that makes me even more upset ...

does anyone know how long it can take for a an insurance company to assign an adjuster? I can't belive it'd take more than a day ....

another question: I've heard that if the car is not drivable when recovered by cops (and it wasn't cause it didn't have wheels), the insurance company should write it off ... is that true ?

I could ask them for the $$$, and just go and buy a new one ... 'cause who knows what the car has been through ....

should I even consider trying this route ?

Thanks!

Insuranceman 01-Apr-2003 07:24 PM

It could take up to 3 or 4 days to assign an adjuster .... depending on how busy they are - what company are you with??? And no that is not true, that if the vehicle is not driveable the insurance company does not have to total the vehicle - All their going to do is have the vehicle towed to a shop, have an apprasier assigned to see the vehicle - see the damage done ( i assume door and ignition damage) and then do a complete body and mechanical inspection - If the estimate to repair is more than the value of the vehicle, they will write it off, if the estimate is less than the value, they will repair it - My suggestion to you is take it to a shop that the insurance company recommends - that way if they do repair it, they have to guarantee the work done on the vehicle, and if you have problems down the road you go right back to the shop who repaired it .....

evgenk 02-Apr-2003 08:52 AM

thanks dude :D

also, how will it work with the stereo and speakers ?
do they have to buy it and install it , or do I have to go and get everything again, and they pay for it ?

same for the wheels ... I had a set of SiR rims on there with good rubber ... will they just get a new set and put it on, or can I ask for the money, and then get whatever I want ? 'cause I was planning on getting better tires, I don't want the stock ones on there , 'cause I am just gonna throw it away when I get the new tires.

another thing is I never told my ins. company about the speakers and the wheels .... they know about the stereo though, does that make any difference?

btw, I am with Wawanesa

sorry for asking so many questions ... I just don't like to learn the hard way :banghead:

thanks for your help!

i had my honda fixed at 427 auto collision (islington and evans) in your area with good results - they deal with most insurance companies

Insuranceman 02-Apr-2003 09:07 AM

Well, First of all, I know Wawaneesa doesn't have preferred shops, so you may have to take it to your own shop and have it looked at there - As far as you stereo, their is ususally a limit of $1500 on a normal auto policy - unless you insured it form more, thats the most you'll be getting (if you stereo is worth that much) - now as far as the rims, I hope you have receipts for when you purchased them and the amount ..... If not, they really don't have to cover them as you never told them you had them - it depends how easy going your adjuster is - If you do have all the info needed, they will issue you a cheque based on the amount you paid and the date you bought them - The auto policy is a acv policy, which means actual cash value, NOT replacement cost - if you bought your rims and tire for $1200 a year ago, and you have all your receipts, you'll likely get $1000 now .... they will not replace them, the don't have to ..... Good luck, Wawaneesa is a good and fair company
