CAMVAP info....
The Canadian Motor Vehicle Arbitration Plan covers vehicles from the current plus four model years.
Currently, that's from 1999 to the newest models.
CAMVAP is financed by participating automakers.
While the program covers vehicles up to 160,000 km, buyback awards can only be ordered for vehicles that have been in service for less than 36 months or that have travelled less than 60,000 km.
If the vehicle has been in service for less than 12 months and has travelled less than 25,000 km, the arbitrator may order that no reduction for use be applied to the buyback calculation.
Consumers who believe that a buyback under CAMVAP is the remedy they want must be aware of these time and kilometrage requirements.
Consumers can calculate the value of a buyback on their vehicle on CAMVAP's Internet site at http://www.camvap.ca
CAMVAP arbitrators can also award repairs to the consumer's vehicle; payment for repairs that have already been done; or payments for towing, accommodation or diagnostic testing.
All of this is free to consumers. The hearing is in their home community.
It normally takes about 70 days to go through the process.
Applications can be sent from the Internet.
