Anyone report ENGINE SWAPS to insurance company?
 

I might buy another civic, however the other civic (1993 civic si) has a b16a installed. My question is, should I report that to the insurance company? If not, will they find out when I take the car in for pictures?

And if I DO report the swap, I risk the chance of them DECLINING my policy because of it.

What should I do?

If I dont tell them, they will find out anyways when I take my car in for pictures. Then they will know that I have lied to them and they will for sure cancel my insurance policy.

BUT if I do tell them, they could also cancel my insurance policy or just jack up the price of my insurance!

the last 3 insurance companies have not even taken pics of my car, so i'm sure you can find one

Which insurance companies do not take pictures? I thought a large majority of insurance companies require pictures of the car.

In any case, I was refering to Meloche Monnex. They requested that I bring my current Civic in for pictures when I applied for insurance with them.

I am with Meloche and I told them about my Motor swap at the time of my car Appraisal and also when we took it in for there inspection, the appraiser simply wrote on the form that the motor was replaced "by the previous owner due to the failure of the original motor because of the high km's", he said the insurance company wont have a problem with that because of the high kms of the car. Plus the motor is a year newer then the car as well. I would rather they know about it because if I get into an accident weather I am at fault or not and they see that there is a different motor in there then specified on my policy then it can cause me some major problems. I have a 3 star rating with them as of last month so they sorta consider me to to be more or less an adult now and therefore less of a risk so they dont seem to be concerenced about the mods I have done to the car.

They asked me what size my motor was either a 1.5L or a 1.6L I said "It is a 1.6L and is not original" The never asked if it was a SOHC or DOHC. I never lied and I stated the size of the motor correctly therefore no worries. I also asked at the MTO if I needed to change anything on the Ownership they asked the same question and I gave them the same answer. Just for the record it's a 91 Civic SI with a B16 swap.

ok if the car was e tested with the motor in the car and it passed its allready in the cars info that the motor has been swaped just because u dident tell them dosent mean if they actualy looked at the page on the computer that it states that the car has a new motor :)


i just did this

if the motor is matched with the chasis code, then its no problem.

A EK CX with a stock 1.6 motor can be swap with a SiR motor because the motor # match the chasis # :thumbup:

But i guess even its not matched but lo-profile looking then i think it should be fine and whoever inspect the car won't say a thing, but just to replace a burnt or high milage motor.

its perfectly legal to swap motors.

here are conditions:

cant have a motor from a different manufacturer in it
cant have a motor with a higher displacement meaning from 1.5 to 1.6 because that would mean its being modified for power.


now with the majority of the people they tend to get a bigger motor. its not a problem providing you report it to the mto and they change the cars overall weight (gross) and power level.

That's pretty much what my insurance told me when I was checking into it. What they didn't allow was any Nitrous or Turbo's. Swapping was not a problem.
