Anyone notify insurance of a swap?
Hey guys... debating on wheather I should go with a swap.... Haven't done it yet and tried to get an answer from insurance on their view of it..... all they said was do it then come in and see them. They would evaluate it then.... I was like the reason why I'm calling you is to try to avoid wasting 1000's of dollars and finding out that you won't cover it..... and "your telling me to do it and see ..." what a bunch of BS...... I told them what motor I was thinking of and told them it would be a stock Honda motor in another Honda but they still wouldn't tell me anything at all..... I was expecting them to say yes that should be fine so long as it's done by a licensed mechanic and you have all the valid papers but all I got was BS......
Anyone out there who has notified their insurance of a swap and not had their rates hiked or policy cancelled?
Thanks

I can't speak for other companies but I'm with RBC and they do not cover it, nor do they seem to care. I told them about it and they said that we (insurance customers) don't have to tell them about this. Unfortunately, if we get totalled, they don't spring for that b18c5 that you spent so much on. On the brighter side, RBC seems to be quite tolerant about car mods. I asked them how much 1500$ worth of mods would affect my rates and they quoted it to about 10$ more per month.

You say that RBC doesn't cover mods but then you say they do.

What I meant was that RBC doens't seem to deem engine swaps as mods. Therefore, they do not cover them, nor do they care. Things like CAI, headers, lowering springs/coilovers, rims, stereo, etc (usual "normal" mods that people do to their cars) you should tell them about. Your premiums will go up depending upon how much all these mods cost. Strange as to why they don't consider the swap as a mod since that's usually the single most expensive "part" of the car to those that have had it done. What it boils down to is that if your car gets stolen or totalled, you'll get cash for your stereo, rims, CAI and your cars stock value as long as you told them, but you'll never get back money for whichever engine you swapped in.
