try TD Meloche Monnex. If you're a university student, they will give you preferred rates. Then do liability only and tell them you are getting $X from Statefarm and you're considering switching. They'll try to match it.

Call Desjardins. PM me and I'll send you a number to call a lady from there, she's nice, and she'll give you a goood quote.I live in Scarborough too and drive an 97 EK, and pay about $260/month with no tickets or anything under my record. This is the best deal i found when i was searching for car insurance before i got my EK.

A few things.

Don't bounce from one company to another, State Farm is one of the cheaper companies out there. If you get quotes, talk to Statefarm, and tell them you have goten quotes from others that are cheaper, they will match or beat those quotes to keep you as a customer.
Insurance companies look at your credit, no lie, they will take everything into consideration. Also, if youare goign to switch companies mid policy, make sure you aren't going to be dinged with a cancelation fee, yes they have those, switch when your policy is being renewed.

There is a reason you are paying $350 a month, and the other brokers/companies will have privy to that information from your current insurer.

GL

Just do online quotes from Belair and similar. Then call. It's not hard to do your own leg work, every company has their good points and bad points.

I'm with TD, one fo the most expensive insurance companies out there, but my rates are one of the lowest you can get. Why? I have been with this insurer for over 10yrs.

Call around and get some quotes. It doesn't help that you live in a city that has one of the highest insurance rates in Canada.

If you are a responsible driver, you can go without collision coverage to cut down your rates. Or raise up your deducible from $500 to $1000 (TD stated that raising the deductible to $2000, won't really make a difference).

If you will be driving less than 10,000km per year, the car can be insured as a pleasure vehicle. Once again cuts down the rates.

Having your G license also helps along with 4+ years of holding that license.

Being 25 or older will cut down your rates by 25%-50%.

Keep in mind that it also takes 3 years for any traffic violation to clear. At-fault collisions can take up to 5 years to clear.

I've been with TD for 3 years now.

Ive been with TD for 4yrs now and im driving a 96 SI coupe. I started at paying $306 a month and got 2 speeding tickets 2yrs ago. Now im only paying $91 but thats cause i moved to Ajax aswell. Its cheaper here plus i got my house insured with them.
From what i remember back then, TD General Insurance and RBC were the cheapest insurance out there at the time.

mention you're a UT grad and get another 15~20% off. They do a bunch of other group discounts (like Charted Accountants, blah blah blah).

Just realize that if you're going with TD Insurance they may not write your insurance if your vehicle is modified. And if you don't tell them and have a claim, and they discover that your vehicle is lowered then they have the right to deny your claim.

ALSO..... if you're going to attempt to contact Meloche Monnex and claim that you're a university grad, if you somehow get through without providing them proof, and then have a claim.... they could deny you also.

if you think that State Farm's rate increase was high, wait until you get your renewal from RBC!! it just went in and you'll absolutely see it on your next renewal

And by that time you probably could have gotten your discounts for sticking around at State Farm.

You gotta realize that when it comes down to it, eventually most insurance companies end up evening out.... it's just a matter of how many claims a specific insurance company takes in a fiscal year to figure out their Premiums. The only thing that'll actually make your premium cheaper is to stick around a specific company for a while and multi-line your insurance.

Did you even bother asking your State Farm agent what your Premiums would be if you multilined? or you're just quick to tell us that we're fu*ked?

There are a few brokers around. Talk to them, give them some money. The monthly payments will decrease beyond your imagination. Some brokers do it now a days, when they are well hooked up in the insurance company.

yeah that's actually quite the cash scam right there..... often times those people that "get you lower rates" get you pretty much the exact same rates if you called that insurance company directly.

Meanwhile, these guys are making A LOT of money... CASH... and they're typically unlicenced, so they shouldn't even be giving any type of insurance transactions anyways.

It's actually a major problem in the industry right now because typically when they do it you're being rated wrong and paying the wrong premium, which is what's driving everyone else's rates up......

I just found something out cause my brother was trying to get insurance with the company im currently with TD General Insurance. You can not have a aftermarket muffler, tinted windows, any sort of stickers on the car or aftermarket rims. LOL
This company is cheap on insurance but they are really strict.
