ACCIDNET with engine SWAP?

Has anybody done an engine swap (d16y7 for GSR in sedan) with the insurance companies knowledge, and then had problems with claims?

what I am wondering is........ if state farm refuses to insure modified vehicles, but Pilot and Cooperators will insure modified vehicles, do these latter two companies truly support their claims, or do they just take your money and drop you when you have a problem?

i'm just trying not to get screwed and drive with the knowledge that I truly have insurance coverage if I do a swap.

call whatever insurance company you are NOT with and ask them what their stand on the issue is...or if you call your current company pretend you are an annonymous person looking for an insurance company that supports what u wanna do and what actions you would need to take etc.

I only know of people not saying they had mods and then trying to get compensation for them after the car was written off...and after some arguing and recipts they got compensation but this was before insurance companies became uber ghey like they are now

but what if you hurt somebody in an accident and they blamed it on your modifications, subsequently cancelling your insurance. Would you then be liable for compensation from the injured person, as well as charged for driving without insurance?

Has ANYBODY been in an accident with a modded car and been left hanging?

Silentkill03........ with your attitude, you clearly wish to go to jail, or are full of 16 yr old testosterone. when you aim to screw the insurance company, they have 10^5 more ways of screwing you.

you are not really that tuff.

I've handled claims where there was an engine swap involved. As long as you have all the documentation to show where you bought the engine and to show its not stolen you should be ok ... I don't realy understand your question about the injured person... it all depends how the company see's the engine swap, and the fact you didn't tell them ... so may say its misrepresentation, and cancel you or some, (like my company) deal with it as long as you have all the documents

Like someone said before on this site, "You're screwed if you do, and you're screwed if you don't" ... and by the way CIVICEX, I wasn't trying to act tuff, that's just my opinion ! Also, I'm 25 years old and probably have been driving way longer than you have. As long as your modifications are legal, no one can blame the accident on them (whether they're covered by insurance or not). I've had $1000 worth of car audio stolen from my car, and I never told my insurance company about it when I bought it. After I claimed it, sure they paid, but then they jacked my rates up like crazy. After that I just switched companies and now my rate is back to normal. Regarding "papers", you can easily go and purchase, or steal for that matter, a crazy sound system that is worth more than a B16 or B18 engine ... and what, is the cop gonna ask you for papers for the sound system too? What about papers for your rims and tires?

32 - 16 = 16years of legal driving. Unless you drove full time since the age of 10, then I got you there.

enough talking smack.......

sounds like NOBODY has crashed their modded car and been screwed by insurance. Then why all the attempts to block the licence plates when posting pics of their rides?

What I want to do is...... turbo my civic, drive knowing that insurance will back me up if somebody crashes into me (or I into them) and not look over my shoulder everytime I see a cop.

1) can I legally modify my car and have valid insurance?
2) if yes to above, then how far can I modify?
3) must I draw up a lengthy and time consuming insurance contract to be insured?

thanks for the input

guy, ask your insurance company...if they insure your car knowing that its heavily modified then they cant screw you in the end...its in the policy that your car has been modified and its covered. The only way they can deny the claim is if you dont have recipts for the work done and they will deem it as "stock" they did this with my last car cuz I didnt have a recipt for the engine...so I just bought the salvage rights to the car ($200) and parted it out after they gave me $1800 as compensation.

1)yes
2)as much as the company will allow you or how much you wanna pay for insurance
3)go over it with your broker and have it included in your policy

another reason to block the liscence plate is because of potential thieves roaming the site
