If the charge was laid for nothing more than a lone car doing in the 50 to 60 range out on the open highway, prosecutors have been doing plea bargains reducing the charge to a simple speeding charge. That speeding charge may still be for the original charged speed, or it may even go to 49 over if you got nailed right at or near the 50 km threshold.

They're not as likely to be so charitable if your 50 to 60 over happened in a 40 to 60 km zone. Also, if the charge was laid as a result of reckless or extremely aggressive driving, such as multiple lane changes bullying and weaving through traffic, brake-checks on following cars, close tailgating, with or without another car as company, you're going for the full ride.

I dont know exactly how fast he was going but it was 50+ and he was lane swerving without changing lights and the cop said he was 'street racing' which is why he got the stunt driving cause but im suprised they completly dropped the stunt driving and gave him only 6 points and $500.

Lawyers said he was expected to receive $5000 fine and min suspension license of 1 year but they said the judge really liked him otherwise there was no way because the person after him got slammed for 1 year suspension and $3000 fine for the same ticket.

its also a wreckless driving charge with 6 points. My gf's friend who got hit with it as well but thankfully shes loaded

With the new law , the cops do not have to give you a ticket they can impound your car for 7 days and you are liable for tow and storage and fine of 2000.00 but they do not have to give a ticket that is able to be fought in court . Can of leaves you left put in fighting a charge that technically doesn't exist .

His car did get impounded for 7 days and he received to 2 tickets with just court dates on them.

He went to court and they dropped 1 and reduced it to 49 over with a $500 only.

and yes you can still fight it in court because I know of four individuals that have had 50 over and they all have taken it to court and got fine/penalty's reduced.

The first person convicted of stunting got fined $4,000 for doing the same as you say your friend did. Your friend should consider himself very lucky. The next time, he won't be.

You would think so, but over and over again, human studies show that the best predictor of future poor behaviour is past poor behaviour.

I can offically say he's scarred.

He doesn't like driving no more because he's scared to get another ticket and when he does he is 100% by the book.

Wasn't his license suspended for 7 days when he first got booked?
I know it's just an administrative suspension but are you sure it won't increase his rates? They always ask you if you've ever had your license suspended, whether its administrative or not.

If that doesn't increase his insurance, I'm sure the 6 points will.

The 6 points to him is nothing and he can afford paying higher insurance np its having his license suspended that was making him **** bricks cause if he had a suspended license he'd still have to drive regardless and pray that he doesn't get pulled over.
