Hi everyone, just a little bit of info here.... I owed about 100 bucks to the 407, I didnt have to pay it and got my plates renewed.... HOWEVER, you have to do it at one of those automated kiosks (I did mine last month at Hillcrest Mall by the TD Canada Trust)...

I know that awhile ago they revoked the 407's power to prevent you from renewing your plates if you had unpaid fees to them. This was due to the many problems that the 407 has had with its billing and lack of customer service. Not sure if they have reinstated their powers or not though.

Just get a transponder and you'll be fine...it is really not that expensive if you Look at the time that you saved by avoiding traffic.

e.g. From Burlington to Richmond hill in the Morning...

This is true, I know someone who has outstanding charges for over a year now, and has renewed their plates twice in that time, with no issues.

I think the most they can do now is just wreck someones credit rating for non payment. I owe 10 dollars and I'll pay it someday except they put a notice on the second bill saying a credit collector was going to come get it so since it sounded rude (I some how missed a payment) I decided I won't pay till they send a nice letter requesting the money (I also don't use the 407 anymore)
