2 tickets

long story short, they pulled me over like 4 cops were there (2 cruisers) and he started teling me hes gonna tow my car because its "unsafe" because its low and itd never pass saftey. then he goes im gonna havce to pay a bunch of towing fees and hes like how much is ur insurance told him 300 and hes like so i guess u havnt told them its lowered yet becuase u have legal obligation to tell them that uve lowered ur car. w.e i started getitng mad and told them that im in the process of gettin my car fixed (the crack light in the back that works) and my corner light, i chnage the fender and bumper this weekend.

so i got a ticket for imporoper light in the back or soemething and my tinst being too dark...the tickets r in my car ill get them after and get the exact information but what should i do?

D.T.P 27-Jan-2009 09:28 AM

go to court :S
plead guilty with explenation or maybe even not guilty since ur taillight is working other than a crack.
about being too low, i was reading the traffic act a while ago and i couldnt find anything saying how hi/low can you be. as long as nothing is scrapping its all good. unless im wrong then somebody please correct me.

gavin.p89 27-Jan-2009 09:33 AM

gavin.p89 27-Jan-2009 10:33 AM

gavin.p89 27-Jan-2009 10:44 AM

I think Highway Traffic Act, R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8
102.(1) HTA or

Highway Traffic Act, R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8
84. (1) HTA

this is my ASSUMPTION but i dont think your insurance can be affected because of height

a) you could have heavy things weighing your car down therefore your springs will compress giving the lowered look

b) insurance only cares how much THEY have to pay if you F up as long as your engine is still (honda i assume?) the PROPER engine for your car insurance should'nt care because installing coil overs (lowering your car) should be just like installing a deck you took out the stock deck and replaced it with after market and i dont think you have to declare a deck to your insurance company and i think that cop was just being a dick

gavin.p89 27-Jan-2009 11:30 AM

You have to tell insurance if you change decks.

What the issue is coil overs alter with the design of the car. If the ride height is altered and you get in an accident the car will not preform properly. And if you get injured or injury someone and your or thier injury is deamed worse than what a stock height car would have done, they will have to pay put more, and will try everything possible to get out of paying by trying to deam your insurance void.

I know it sounds dumb but belive me.

bengali548 27-Jan-2009 11:39 AM

WOW you have to declare a deck

God i hate insurance companies SOOO much

gavin.p89 27-Jan-2009 11:53 AM

Well when I bought my 95 olds achieva insurance asked if they could come look at it. They took pictures of every scratch (if i were to get in an accidnet on a scratched or dented panel they would not cover as much as it is betterment (better than when i got it)). They also took pics on the the deck i had in it, it was just a basic one so i could have cd. Also when they came i had the drive side door panel off as i was trying to figure out my window regulator problem and they kicked up a stink about the window not work, so i had to go back in once it was fixed and prove it was working. Insurance is a death trap. My buddy bought a car but had his dad insure it as his with him as a secondary driver and my bddy as a primary on the dads corolla. He did this becasue it was cheaper for him to be a primary on the corolla then on this integra. He got in a major accident and insurance investgated and asked neighbours and they said he drives the integra all the time and the dad never drives it. Isuance didn't want to cover his car becasue they provided insurance with false info.

Be careful, I wold hate to see some here get in an accident and god forbid kill someone then have insurance say to bad you pay for it becasue the civic wasn't at the right height.

First off, your car didn't pass safety and you were driving it? :nono:

Regarding your lowered car, you need to disclose that to your insurance company. When I had my Acura, I called my insurance company and told them I was lowering my car and they said it's fine as long as my car wasn't rubbing. Then I sent an email to my agent right after the convo so we had something in writing.

I recommend you take it to court, and in the meantime get your tail light fixed then bring the receipt to court showing you fixed your tail light. Your charges should be dropped for that offence.
In regards to your tint, I don't know how they measure if its too dark. If you go to court, just tell them you bought the car that way and you don't have the money to get that fixed. They should lower/dismiss the charge.

Good luck man.

D.T.P 27-Jan-2009 12:37 PM

also if you tell insurance company you lowered your car, the monthly payment will go up since they will assume that you are one of those "street racing punks". any modification to a car are ground to say that you will be racing it or you are building a flashy car or what not.

Edit: depends which inssurance company. some will just let the lowering thing go but some will raise your payments.

bbarbulo 27-Jan-2009 02:37 PM

that's funny, i asked my insurance if they wanted a list of mods, they said 'no that's fine just keep your reciepts in case you need to make a claim'.

pinkcivicchick 27-Jan-2009 03:29 PM

Yah it's important to tell your insurance company what you have done to your car.. I did to mine, and it's all covered :D

i have the saftey certificate

my tail light has one vcrack on it on the reverse part, so the only white part of my inner tail light, the bulb is exposed but it works..nd she gave me a ticket for it and then they said that my tint is too dark im like no its not...then they put their hands ojn the inside of my glass and say look i cant even see my hand im like clearly, u can. they were assholes as usual...

by the way, on my way back up from my buddys house to markham, i got pulled over again. she was pretty sexy and she had a sexy voice and she asked me for my id and i was with my buddy and his girl and she took their id and she asked me if i had any drugs or alcohol in the car i said no. she asked if i was sure and i said i prokmise theres nothing in my car and then she said ok good i dont wanna have to be doin paper work tonite and then she cxame back and told me that my plate is really dirty and she couldnt even see it when she was right up on me...i told her ok sorry ill get to a gas station right away and clean it. and she said yea have a good night.

so i went to a gas station and saw that u couldnt see my birth sticker unless u were bent over lookin at my plate so i wahsed it and my back window.

yeah that is dumb because if some insurance companies are willing to allow u to lower ur car knowing that it alters the cars design...its stupid they were just pickin on me

yea its illegal to do that. it was on the news, the thing about parents insuring their kids as temporary drivers.

civicEJ1 27-Jan-2009 05:06 PM

OK I GOT THE ACT NUMBERS

this is wat it says on the tickets

62.(1) Lamps required on all motor vehicles except motorcycles
When it’s dark or difficult to see, your vehicle must have 2 headlights on the front
1 white or amber side marker on each side and one red taillight (yes only one).

Nope. It's not just about reimbursement. It's also about ensuring that the mods haven't turned your low performance econobox Honda into a high performance race machine or worse, an unsafe death trap.

Most insurance companies require that you disclose any modifications made to the car. They want to know what the mods are so they can determine of the insurance risk associated with your car has changed. Some insurance companies will not insure modified cars at all, and give you time to either restore the car to an unmodified state or find another insurer. Some will insure you but increase your rates. Others might not change your rates, but they still want to know.

Regardless, failure to disclose modifications can result in your insurance company dropping you if they find out, or even refusing to cover you if you are in a crash.

If your insurance company drops you for failure to disclose, they will also put you on an industry blacklist. You will find it very hard to get coverage from any other insurance company. Even if you do find a company willing to take you on, you're looking at 100% surcharges for 5 or 6 years.
