what shock to buy

hey guys ive had my 95 coupe for about 5 years now and my car is lowered on stock shocks with neuspeed race springs which lower the car about 2.75 inches im pretty sure.anways the problem is my shocks have been horrid for the past 2 years but now its pretty scary lmao what shocks wouldbe the cheapest to buy to have a decent ride i dont race it anymore and ill be selling the car in about 2 years or so but i dont feel safe with stock shocks so which make would be my best option thanks

the ride must be bouncy with those stock struts. those were never intended to run anything other than stock springs. lowering on stock struts on almost every car is unsafe and should not be done, there are very few exceptions. it makes the car unpredictable which can lead to accidents. if those are the struts that came with the car they have probably been blown for a while.

now for your options you can run on:
koni yellow or reds,
kyb agxs,
tokico illuminas or d-specs,
bilsteins

and probably a couple others. do not use a stock replacement with your neuspeed springs like kyb gr2( rated 1.5" drop) , monroe etc. tokico hps are said to be able to handle a decent drop (1.5 to 2" warrantied) but nothing like 2.75".

yea i really would like koni yellows but i cant justify spending that much money on the car when ilkl be getting rid of it soon how much are the kyb agxs for all four ill be installing them myself and im most likely going to have to buy rear lca arms because mine are probably fried

you could probably pick up a new set of the agxs for around $300 to 500 shipped to your door off ebay. i bought a set of gr2s off one of the sellers jdmwerks or something like that it was $240 to my door after customs and taxes. finding a set of struts used like the agxs, konis etc will be more cost effective but you wont know how long the strut will last. sometimes deals do come up though i got my koni yellow rear pair for $80 brand new,

Monroe shocks just a little better than stock.... since ur getting rid of it soon dont spend the money if ur just gonna sell it

if he runs the neuspeeds, a 2.75" drop on the monroes they will blow and the ride will be bouncy even before they blow. do it right and save yourself the headache, even if that means spending a little more. say you install the monroes, go for alignment then they blow before you sell the car. even if they are under warranty its still an inconvenience to have to pull the suspension apart again and then go for another alignment. if going back to stock springs then the monroes are a decent choice. if you plan on sticking with a big drop a strut designed to be lowered on should be used.

Blistein if u have the $$$. Rides very nice. They use for German cars a lot.

yeah well ill be keeping it for about a year or two for sure imjust not sure if i should spend the extra 200 bucks and get thge koni yellows or not but i also gave to factor in the rear lca arms because mine are probably going to be shot to ****

JDMej1 26-Feb-2010 05:19 PM

get koni's. and saying lca arms just makes no sense whatsoever; lca stands for lower control arm, so you need to buy lower control arm arms? :pound:
your bushing might be gone since the car is so old but you could just buy new bushings and save yourself the money..

italstallion 26-Feb-2010 07:26 PM

yeah but the cost to get a new bushing and to press it in is pretty much the same as and aftermarket lca no?

JDMej1 26-Feb-2010 11:37 PM

Energy Suspension 16.3104 Rear Lower Control Arm Bushings for 29 bucks id say just order that, you wont find decent lca's for less that 150.. blox are pretty much the only ones but their bushings are sh*t to begin with. might as well order the bushings :shrugs:

italstallion 28-Feb-2010 12:37 AM

oh sweet thanks for the link from what ive heard most people get new lcas probably because theyre too lazy to go to a shop and press them out so they just pay the extra bucks and buy them with the new ones already in

JDMej1 28-Feb-2010 12:38 AM

yeah exactly, and no problem man
