West end Shop to lower car?

Anyone know a place that can install some springs in my 1.6 el for less than 100? I usually take my car to some guy in Richmond hill and he charges like 60 but I'm jam packed tomorrow and don't have time to drive down and tomorrow is my only day off. Someplace closer to Mississauga?

How are these guys making money? Even at $100, you're not making any money, that's if you're a legit shop.

This guy installs springs every hour of every day. He basically knows the ins and out even with seized bolts. Luckily most cars Ive taken to him didn't give him a headache, only a few but $60 was a price he only gives to certain ppl. I think he usually charges $100 but even at that price, still good.

It usually takes him an hour at the most to change springs.

These guys are not GM union workers so to them 50$/hr is huge money for a mechanic. There's a reason why people avoid shops.. over charging is killing that industry!

Springs are a bloody joke to install, I personally would never pay to have it done.

i agree, to a point.

springs themselves are very basic components and they are easy to install. i've done more than i can count.

BUT - you have to look at the entire job as a whole. i can guarantee you that a $60 - or hell, even a $100 spring install - will not include torquing all of the bolts down to torque spec, AND when the suspenion is under load. this stuff takes time, and is crucial to correct bushing alignment. your suspension is not something you want to F up.

"you get what you pay for," "time is money," etc. it all applies here.

How do they make $50 an hour when they have all that overhead? Any clue how much an actual GOOD strut compressor costs? How about a set of oxy-acet. torches to torch off the seized LCA bolts? The air compressor, hydro, etc. $50 an hour won't be enough to keep ANY shop running. Assuming it's an actual shop, and not some back-yarders renting out a warehouse with an air compressor.

In the end, you get what you pay for. Springs are a very basic job, I'm sure they can handle it, but when it comes to bigger installations I wouldn't bring my vehicle to any shop that operates or charges next to nothing.

ya you do get what you pay for ... and im quiet satisfied with my install. 100 bucks and running perfect havent had a single problem. And just cuz u get a good price on something doesnt mean they operate and doing things at next to nothing for other stuff. Depends on time and labor to do the job and parts. if you like to over pay for things thats cool. but i like to shop around for the best bang for the buck!
