tires rubbing against the body

hi

i just have a question. i have a 95 civic 4 door and in the summer time when i put on my 17" rims and it someone sits at the back i hear this wierd sound as if the rim/tires are rubbing against the body of the car. only happens if someone is sitting at the back and especially when i am turning my car. any idea what could be causing this?? BTW i have stock shocks.

You probably have it right. I'm guessing your tires are 205/40/17. Combine the extra width in the tire (going to 205 from 175) and the weight in the back and the old springs & shocks and you most likely have tire rub.

what width are your rims? i run 17 by 7's and im fine, but a friend in a sunflower has 7.5 and hers rub like mad when theres any weight in the back

ya, your tires are rubbing most likely. it might be as simple as removing the trim peice from the edge of the wheelwell.

Or you might need a camber kit and put some negative camber on your rear wheels.
