Threaded collar coilovers on aftermarket struts?
Hey guys I can't find an answer to this anywhere! Any expeirence or thought would be great. I have a decent set of coilovers I pulled out of an old show crx a guy was scraping so I grabbed for parts. I have them holding hypertech 250lbs springs and I have a huge prob struts!! When I first put them in I blew the old ones within months and now after two years the stock replacements are gone it sounds like. Now I'm not goin out to buy more stock replacements to wreck. So does anyone know of a strut that will hold a set of threaded collars and be able to hold up? I was thinking of putting type rs in the rear thanks to mprs DIY but fronts I have no idea! I would prefer to put matching four but I will do what I have to. And it's odd the fronts are still fine?

You have some conflicting information here, so perhaps you could clear a few things up first...
You are running 250in-lb springs (front and rear?) with stock shocks? or aftermarket shocks?
Stock shocks will blow because they were not designed to work with springs that much stiffer than stock. They are essentially being forced to move at rates beyond their capabilities and they blow. What you need is a set of shocks that can handle those springs. I would suggest koni orange or similar. Maybe even something more capable than those, like koni yellows. But don't use oem replacement shocks with those springs, as you already know, they won't last.

Sorry realized I worded it a bit odd. I have stock shocks and 250in lbs front and rear. I just put the stock ones in two years ago as a quick fix I got them for free I was just waiting for them to go. I know I need an aftermarket set. I was considering the mini reds, I just didn't know I they were the same physical exterior shape as the stock ones that the threaded collars would fit on and tighten up?

No problem. Thanks for clearing that up.
Yeah, basically you need stiffer set of shocks. Don't go too stiff though. 250in-lbs aren't too crazy stiff, but they are too stiff for stock shocks to handle.
Call around to a few different manufacturers, tell them your spring rates and what they recommend. Don't let them talk you into selling you anything crazy. All you basically need is the next step up from stock, like koni orange's or similar. Koni yellows might be a bit much, but they are adjustable.
