for those who let "ball joint" issues slide past them....

Yup... i decided to delay my plans to fix my ball joints... and this is what happened to me today.... what a complete FAIL!

- I am to blame in this situation because I cheaped out and wanted to put it off for the next week... but looks like my EG basically told me to screw off and get **** done on time... well... lesson learned..

Hope this is an eye opener for who ever made this stupid "delay till next week" decision like I did... and ya it's hit or miss... you may run into this or maybe later than I did... but hey.. better be safer than sorry!

here's the snaps...

Yeah dude, you got very lucky. Not much damage at all. Good thing you were going slow or you're fender and a few other parts would be toast...

Funny how it never made the noise you were trying to get me to hear at the meets...

Anywho, glad nobody was hurt.

Oh man, seems like this is happening a lot nowadays. My buddy ripped lower balljoint out few weeks ago also.
Was at my buddies shop and an accord got towed in, fender crumpled, brake lines ripped, driveshaft torn, inner/outer tie rods and both balljoints ripped out also. Its silly because a balljoint is like 50$ and labour isn't that much, but if you neglect it, it'll end up costing you a LOT more.

I always check my balljoints, tie rod ends and suspension components every time when I have my car up on a hoist whether at work or at school. Just a good tip for some of you DIYers.

It's a simple test to do to check if your ball joints and tie rod ends are in good shape.

With the car/tire suspended, try tilting the tire 12-6, shouldn't have much play. Same with 9-3. If there's any play, you might be looking for some replacement parts.

thanks for all the sympathy peeps... sad times without my EG.

but yea as mentioned i let go of a simple repair... which is costing me more..

i am also replacing some other components in that area just for the peace of mind..

so here is my bill for the fix up -

left & right shafts (used but good condition)
left & right upper ball joints
left & right lower ball joints
total with labor and everything in - $640.00

sounds reasonable?

oh and another thing... i was SUPER LUCKY that this happened when i was going arond 25-30 km/h... i was supposed to be on the 401 like 10 minutes later... all that happened is my wheel turned out completely.... so no SERIOUS damages anywhere else except for that area... thank GOD for real... if this had happened on the 401 it probably would have made it to CP24 for sure.... scary *** thought!

so the lesson learned here...

"opt out of performance mods - until the car is 100% in tact with OEM safety standards!"

that sucks a lot, like said about you should always check your front end every once and a while, i prefer every oil change or tire rotation.

i had a truck come in today (york nursery if anyone from the k-w region knows that place). anyways it was one of those 6 wheelers, 2 in the front 4 on the back, like a moving van but bigger. we had informed them they needed a wheel bearing but they neglected it. today as the driver was driving on the expressway it exploded, and he continued to drive... finally at the end of the day he brought it to us. needed a new spind, hub, rotor, caliper... EVERYTHING.

the rule here is replace the parts you need replaced ASAP!

Heck my 1991 civic still has the original muffler and shocks on it !
