suspension modz

Wassup everyone

Summer has come once again, done school for the summer time to spoil myself with some goodies. Now i wanna start by saying thank you for the warm welcome, im a complete noob with car modz etc. So i would like to get some of your perspective on what i would like done to my car.

I have a 2001 Honda Civic 4 door. Ive had a lot of thoughts and talk to with some friends who knows about more than i do. My shocks are completely done and i was thinking on dropping my car (not for show or racing) just to look nice thats all. Now a friend of mine suggested to me this combination (Tokico Illumina w/ S.Tech springs) another argued that ProKit would be better. Keep in mind that there will always be 3 people in my car almost every weekend (me, mygirl and my lil angel) so i dont want the weight to ****ed up my ride (pardon my french)

Let me just say that my budget is in good condition i am looking to spend about 1000-1500 on modification for a comfortable ride. but if i can save money and not have to spend all of that it would also be amazing.

please any help would be great! thanks!

Well, that combination of tokicos and stechs will be comfortable. I had agx struts with s-tech springs and I loved it. Few problems, it seemed like the back sagged, but that's normal, due to the size and shape of wheel arches, it looks like the back is lower when in reality it is not. Moreover, with about 350lbs in the trunk, and 550lbs worth of body weight (2 bigger people +me) , with 60profile tires which were too big for 15s I had, I rubbed going down the hwy over every bump. So springs are a little soft, 3 people with no camping gear in the trunk, would be just fine though.

Problem with springs is that you are bound to whatever the spring is, whereas if you were to go with coilovers, you can set your height to whatever you want. Downside, most...well all coilovers are stiff. The good thing in that is that you can see your girlfriends ***** go up and down on every bump but gets a little annoying sometimes.

Imo, you should be just fine with the s-tech springs, they are very comfortable and a joy to ride on (compared to several different suspension setups I had). Could also look into the h&r springs, but from what I recall, Mike (mpr) was rubbing quite badly in his em1 on those springs doing U-turns.

Just keep one thing in mind, if you're not rubbing and scraping, you're not low enough

Awsome alot to think about. But i forgot one thing i also wanna put in two 10"inch kicker sub in the back. may have some more weight on it. but the good thing is that summer season i never drive for camping so i think the weight shouldnt be a problem, well off to my mechanic to see what he can do for me price wise. Really appreciate the response D.T.P.

Everyone else is welcome to hit this thread

Yeah, the subs won't sag it down that much. I never had any problems with that setup, and I had 2 10" subs and with 4 adults + me was always fine.

I had eibach sportlines on my em1 lowered 2"+ and yeah they rubbed during u-turns. But I don't have to worry about that anymore.

To the OP: I recommend eibach prokit springs with koni orange dampeners (shocks).

Im getting all confuse on what to really get, first i thought the illumina w/s.tech would be perfect buti was told that it may be to soft for my ride then i was told to go with the Eibach Sport Kit which is a little stiffer but is a good ride then a friend of mine has a the Koni Yellow w/s.tech setup and he side his rides perfect for him.

can anyone please give me more of your opinions please and thank you

What kind of use is the car going to see the most?

Daily driving, track, both?

Then don't go too stiff and don't go too low.

Koni yellows are adjustable and expensive, not really necessary unless you track your car.

I stand behind my recommendation for eibach prokit and koni orange shocks.

From personal experience, i say get S-techs, very comfortable, just a little stiffer than oem to prevent you from rubbing when u-turning etc...Best springs ive owned. Been through few other sets, non were as pleasant as the s-techs.

Great combination. Or H&R Sport. Slightly lower than the Prokit and rides great!.

Overkill, and these coilovers are very prone to seizing up. They don't have the nick-name P.I.Seized for nothing.

I would go with the Koni Orange/STR shock and a good spring like H&R sport or Eibach Prokit as Mike suggested. Use the rest of the money to refresh your old, worn out bushings and whatever else will pop up, and of course - an alignment. You can make your car an absolute blast to drive for $1500.
Too many people overlook the important of bushings. They are there for a reason and need maintenance/replacement.

Check out Tokico blues then. With RSX springs. Prevents the rear from sagging. My buddy has it on his Civic and it looks 'bauce bro'

^Good combo.

Koni actually use eibach springs, just so you know. The yellows are adjustable so you may want to play around with them a bit to get them set where you want them.

Try at full soft, then full stiff so you have a sense of each extreme setting, then adjust accordingly.
