Shocks replacement?

This is probably on here somewhere and Ive tried searching for it but regardless heres the question.

I have an ES1 (2002 Acura EL) and Im going to buy skunk2 adjustable lowering springs. The question: should I be replacing the shocks in addition to the lowering springs? Im only looking for a 1.5" to 1.75" drop right now.

Thanks guys

Part of your question doesn't make sense. If you are just buying springs, they will not be adjustable. They will be a fixed ride height.

Changing the stock shocks for aftermarket shocks with adjustable collars is what will give you ride height adjust-ability.

So what exactly are you buying? Skunk2 "coilover kit" which includes springs and shocks with adjustable ride height collar? Or are you just buying springs?

Also, what kind of use will the vehicle see the most? Street/track/autocross?

I apologize, the ebay item that they listed was adjustable lowering springs, it didn't make any sense either. I questioned him and he has replied yet

Ahh, ok yes. They come with the threaded adjustable ride height collars (the silver rings and cylinder shaped parts). This will give you the ability to adjust the ride height using the stock shocks.

However, based on the spring rates of those springs, I suggest you replace the shocks as well with koni yellows or similar type. Otherwise the stock shocks will not have enough control over the force of those springs and your ride will be somewhat "bouncy".

If you haven't bought these just yet, it makes more sense to buy a coil-over kit which includes the shocks and springs together. This makes it easier to install and makes sure the spring/dampener (shock) rates are more properly matched.

Though I didn't open the link, but I'm assuming the price is why the op is going that way.

You get what you pay for, why not just find some used coilovers or instead, get tokicos or koni yellows and some decent lowering springs. Trust me when I say, "just a little bouncy" becomes a huge headache few months down the road. Just my opinion...

The determining factor as to what to choose should be dictated by what kind of use the vehicle will see the most.

OP, is this mainly a street-driven car? If so, Eibach pro-kit lowering spring set (just the springs) with either the stock shocks or koni orange (or similar type shocks) is a great combination that isn't overly expensive.

clarification, OP stands for?

I'm going to go with those adjustable lowering springs and in the summer replace the shocks.

Thanks MPR
