no meds please
Hello- I have a 96 civic htchbck cx. I am bored with the look of this car as it is stock. I have some ideas of what i would like, but i need some direction. Can any one tell me- how i can put a 4" lift in my car... Yes a 4" suspension lift... much thanks...GM

4" lift? :O
May be slightly complex, since I doubt you can load the springs that much to bring the height up enough. If fully stretched strut = 4" lift then just do what Mike (MPR), user on this forum did. Grab adjustable collars like ones you get with ebay coilover kit and install your springs, the stiffer the better. Then crank up the sleeve to the very top.
If that does not give you enough lift, well you'll need taller struts to support that. And that's where I have no answer.
May I ask what your plan is for the car?

plans for my civic
all over i see hot looking civics that have been suped up-lowered-custom paint, high horse-power. I thought that i would like something different. I am currently working on a scetch. of my plan but as i work 12 days then 2days off it's a bitof a chore.
4" lift- bush bar in front, roof rack, spare tire on hatch think of it as an urbanassult civic. flat black or camoflauge ofcourse.

Ahaha I like the idea. Different is always good.
Crv driveline? B20 w/ awd transmission and rear axle maybe?
To be honest, I'm not sure of the height you can go up with stock struts. I'm sure Mike can chime in (once he sees this) with his advice. He has basically raised his sir, just not sure by how much, and how much will the struts allow to go up.

Martin, you might know this part that could help though do integ struts extend more then civic ones? Or adding to you suggestion of the B20 AWD conversion, I wonder if the CRV struts could be used to help lift the Civic while adding in the drive train?

DC integra has identical struts.
Doing crv drive train, well im not too sure, since i know there is a LOT of custom work and im not sure how the mounting for rear struts compare to stock civic. Though i'd think using crv rear suspension and just using civic top hats should resolve the issue. but thats for the rear only. The front iirc are like 7th gen suspension and will not work.

Murdoch, I think you and I will get along just fine.

It now has different rims and mudflaps (see sig) and the back-end sits slightly higher due to swapping out for ITR rear shocks. The tread on that can be found here: http://www.torontocivics.com/showthread.php?t=178260
The goal with mine was for more of a rally type setup and not so much a super-high 4x4 off-road type setup like you're talking. But that sounds like an interesting concept. I'm also planing on adding a rally light bar on the front with proper rally lights.
I've though about doing a CRV drivetrain swap. It's an ambiscious idea that would require quite extensive work in the back end. You'd have to cut out the entire rear sub frame section and replace it with the CRV rear subframe section. It's a lot of work and there is a lot of structural integrity issues you'd need to address.
I don't have the money or the time to try it, but I would if I could.
Not easy, but not impossible. If you do attempt this, let us know and keep a build thread updated with pics!
