lowering springs on stock shocks?

hey guys...well my friend has an 03 civic coupe and wants to upgrade his suspension...he wanted to get lowering springs along with shocks...well his bday is coming up so me n my friends wanna get him a set of lowering springs...i've been reading that Tein S-techs work great as lowering springs along with Koni Yellows...

so my queestion is this: will the tein s-techs work with stock shocks? because we plan to get him lowering springs and install it for him...and later on when he saves up a bit, he can grab himself the koni yellows...

if not, what other lowering springs are stock shock friendly as well as work well with koni yellows?

1.9 and 1.75 rear i believe...should be good...as long as he is going to get the shocks... i had progress springs 2.0 f/r and rode on stock shocks for like 2 yrs... when i took em off shocks were still fine

just as joker said, if thats the drop, you'll be fine on stock shocks.. I'v been on stock shocks and a drop of 1.5 for over 2 years, shocks look like new.

I would personally do it right the first time and wait untill I had both of them. Your springs could settle below 2" inches for all you know. Not to mention suspension is one thing on your car you should never cheap out on. All thogh everyone seems to think they can??
Do it right the first time and save yourself the headache in the long run.

As T-Mack said, do it right also if he wants to upgrade suspension it would make sense to change the struts to something more aggressive. Less bounce, nicer ride.

well he doesn't need outstanding handling, doesnt track his car, he just wants to lessen the wheel gap...so the s-techs should be pretty good with the stock shocks for now...when he gets shocks later on, we'll just pull it out and install them on the new shocks...how about koni reds? they're more affordable than the koni yellows and are still somewhat adjustable right? again, not he will not be tracking his car, just wants to lessen the wheel gap so that his rims will look ok...

Either way if you lower the car your changing the dynamics of the whole suspension.....if you don't do it right you'll either have a real bouncy shty ride or blow a strut or two not to mention camber issues eating your tires???
Things you need to think about.....but hey its not my car.

well we're gonna install it and my buddy is gonna do the alignment for free, we'll need camber bolts for the rears to adjust camber right?

what is the ideal daily driver camber settings? For subarus ideal is around -1.5 fronts and -1 on the rears and 0 toe all around...similar for the 01-05 civic coupes?

You will need a camber kit for the rear. You can't do the washer trick or longer bolts on the 01 and up. Fronts will most likely be able to be adjusted to back to factory spec with what adjustment they have built in.

Ideal camber setting would be factory spec. If you stray too far for daily driving, you will kill the life of the tires.

I've had many Honda's and a set up I had was s-techs on stock shocks. It makes for a comfortable ride with improved cornering. go for it (y)

hmmm sag? or just compress easier under more weight.. mine are a bit lower in the rear but if i take out my sub box it raises to what it is supposed to be. just a thought.

to OP: I got s techs on original shocks, did the install with the help of my cousins (free) and they ride pretty comfortable with good cornering. Shocks are still strong after a year. I say if your not paying to install them go for it! if your paying to install (which i understand your not) then do it right the first time.

Why not just wait? you're going to put on shocks after? The question should be install with shocks or without. Not, install with shocks LATER or not?? I'm sorry that doesn't make much sense. It's like eating a burger w/o the meat, but then eating the meat like an hour later. You're either a vegan or your not.

I chose to drop on stock, and I'm sticking with it. I'm riding on eibach prokit, 05 civic sedan. Works perfectly fine, but only a 1" drop mind you.

pro kit would be a wayyyyy better choice if youre gonna stick with stock struts, you wont get a bouncy ride and your struts will still live for a long time. but like said above me they are only a 1" drop up front and 1.1" in the rear.

Should be fine with the s-techs and stock dampers for a while.

The koni yellows are excellent. We run them in our race MR2 and I highly recommend them. The range of adjustability is pretty good too.
