ITR rear shocks on EK coupe (EM1) *pics*
Most of us know the EK coupe rear LCA's are quite different than the ITR rear LCA's. They are longer and have a flat bar design (ITR has a U-channel shape) and the shocks mount to the LCA's differently, which makes it not possible to use rear shocks made for an ITR on an EK coupe... or does it?
I have a set of aftermarket shocks I picked up a while back for an ITR and since my stock shocks finally gave up after 267,000km's, I was determined to make the ITR shocks work.
Long story short; I cut off the end mounts of the shocks and welded on the mounting brackets from the old EM1 shocks onto the ITR shocks. Swapped springs (pre-loaded eibach sportline springs) and was good to go. Car handles MUCH better now...lol. And no, it did not damage the shocks. **Warning** Doing this can damage the shocks (the extreme heat), so be carefull.

Smart idea, I like thinging out of the norm.
Creativity and welding skills allow for nice projects.
I have a race car and there are so many things I could do myself if my welding skills were better.
I have a mig, just do not trust my welds for my race car yet.

Thanks guys.
lol... yeah, I wish I had a mig. Would make these projects go quicker and easier.
I have a 230V arc (stick) welder. If you saw the tiny factory welds on the shock mounts, you'd agree my welds are probably quite a bit stronger...lol.

I am doing the same thing.
Right now my car is stock 99 Civic SI that I am using as my track car for instructing at Mosport GP and the DDT,
I have Brembo blanks with Hawk DTC-60 pads up front and drums in back with new stock shoes,
Installed ASG with Civic Type R sway bar in rear.
Still using 14in rims but with R compound tires 215-50-14
I am very impressed with how this car rides around Mosport.
There is room for improvement though, can you say body role
I wanted to keep this close to stock height for two reasons.
COPS and WINTER.
I just picked Integra Type-R 98 spec shock spring combo for dirt cheap $220 cash
Have installed the fronts today and going to get my fellow racer mechanic to weld up the brackets to install the back.
With just the fronts on can feel a great improvement in role and basically the springs are now 250 lb Linear instead of the 165 lb Progressive stockers.
Monday I am back at Mosport and cannot wait to feel the different in corner entry and exit with these front shocks and springs.
Hopefully will have the backs done by Fri cause have another date this time on the DDT.
Much tighter track then the GP, perfect to compare before and after effect of these Type-R shock, and spring combo.
I would like to at a later date to put on Koni Yellows Sport and rear disk brakes, but for $220 bucks I am inpressed
Want to thank MPR
