Cheap-*** suspension rebuild?

Hi people,
New to this forum but I've had my '95 CX hatch for a couple of years. Bought it with 270,000kms, now I've got 438,000kms. This is my favourite car I've ever had, I've dealt with the rust properly on the body but I've noticed that the nuts at the top of the front suspension towers have disentegrated from rust. I know one of my upper ball joints needs replacing as well as the rear drum brakes and bearings. So what I'm wondering is should I replace all the upper and lower suspension arms, shocks and struts with used JDM Toronto stuff, or to replace just the bushings, shocks and struts. Also what about going for the rear disk brake conversion JDM's got. I'm not looking for performance, I just want to keep this car forever, and yeah I'm cheap!

The rear disk conversion, is not really hard to do, however, with a car with that mileage I will run into seized parts for sure. That's what happened to me and i ended up taking it High Velocity and they took care of it for me. You don't really need to do the conversion, if your car is still stock, then you could just service the drums. It's not that hard. As you mentioned that you are cheap your better off just servicing the drums.

Do NOT purchase used suspension components unless it's something such as a steering knuckle. Balljoints seize up, rubber bushings become hard, shock dampeners just become crap.

With a vehicle of that mileage I can guarantee you that you need shocks all around, however, is it the vehicle really worth spending all that money?

I would recommend coming by my shop and I can give you a vehicle evaluation. We will give you a thorough check over of the engine, suspension, brakes, underbody, etc.

Thanks for the advice guys, I didn't really like the idea of a disk brake conversion anyway. If I got used suspension bits from Japan (TorontoJDM), wouldn't the bushings/balljoints be in better shape because of their non-winters, lack of salt, lack of mileage?
I now Love this car and want to see just how much mileage I can get it up to with duct tape, hammer and a screwdriver, if you know what I mean!!!

it won't be perfect, but it'll be better than what you've got now... so i say get a whole integra suspension conversion w/ rear disk brakes. you prolly need a new master cylinder anyways if not right now then soon. for roughly $300-400 for all the bits you need plus another $150 in rotors/pads, you'll still end up cheaper than buying new shocks/bushings etc.

No desire to go performance, this is strictly a commuting & travelling car. For performance I'll ride my Ducati!
