Sigma SD14

pretty interesting, 3 colour layer sensor to grab all the colours with no interpolation like on standard dslr cameras...so in turn the RAW image data is more true or real in comparison to others...and for a new unit with a 4.6mp image sensor this true colour technology must be good

SD14 has been out awhile. Not impressed at all. 4.6mp just does not cut it amongst other things.

4.7mp Red + 4.7mp Green + 4.7mp Blue = 14.1MP total resolution

i believe color correction is one of the most common edit we all do after we shoot digital and if this baby takes care of it....sounds like a very good feature.

4.6mp is more than enough though its behind in the times as it was the first pro dslrs that were like 3mp

Beyond MP argument the entire camera is behind the times. If it had come out in 2002-2003 it would have been impressive.

The mirror-lockup is a damn good feature.

all dslrs have mirror lock up...the lower end ones just have them in the menu screens and not on programmed buttons which make it a PITA to use...like on my D50 I had to press menu....then something else....then mirror lock...shutter button to lock it etc...ghey!

it really isnt behind in the times....when its boasting its 3 layer sensor with layers for each colour channel...which emulates the 3 layers that colour film have...its not a camera I would purchase mainly cuz its sigma and its only 4.6mp but the technology it carries is something I would like to see be the standard for all dslr cameras

looking beyond the reviews and highlights....i am of the opinion that...

sigma is not in the business of cameras...they specialize in lenses, so for them to put this camera out with presumably less than the best features of date, it only leads me to believe that they are not trying to compete with canons and nikons of the worlds....but are making a statement of what potential their technology has.

to rajiv's point...

No auto ISO - good to have but its absence shouldnt limit your photography
Poor performance beyond ISO 400 - granted
800 max ISO - 1600 extended but doesnt matter if its not effective
No Kelvin settings - no biggy
5 point AF - no biggy

its good to have all these features...its like sandbagging...i think my canon rebel xt is behind the times now but it gets the job done......i dislike the fact that it doesnt have spot metering but should that limit my creativity...no.

i have two quick questions:

1) does effective mp is only limiting in terms of how large the photograph can be or is there something else to it? cuz the true apples to apples comparison would be number of sensor photo detectors no?

2) which other cameras have the same feature = CMOS x 3

1) yes, how big the picture can be made before it becomes all pixelated

2) i dunno...tv quality video cameras use 3 CCD sensors 1 per colour channel but for still small format cameras...I cant think of any
