sd1000 vs sd850 IS

whats the difference between these two? ive used both and it seems like the 850 feels nicer to hold, much steadier feeling, but in terms of features... whats the difference?

Cynikal.Mindset 27-Feb-2008 06:18 PM

and image stabilization, iso differences, zoom, video recording format

image stabilisation, though not mechanical in case of a point and shoot so less effective, works and is a must.

If it's a toss up between the two, take the one w/ IS, my opinion. I've played with both and the 850 is what I'd pick.

The cost of the 850 shown on Vistek is not too far off the cost of the Canon S5. IMO the Canon S5 is one of the best cameras you can get without going DSLR. If you go with the 850, I'd suggesting taking a look at the Canon S5.

I actually picked up the S5 a few days ago. It's pretty sweet.

the s5 is way to big to be lugging around

Newbreed 29-Feb-2008 02:21 PM

I don't have an issue with it's size, it's not like you need two hands to carry it around. But if your looking for something compact that can fit in your shirt or coat pocket, I can see where the size of the S5 would come into play.

PowerShot SD850 IS
3.56 x 2.22 x 1.04 in./90.4 x 56.5 x 26.4mm
Approx. 5.82 oz./165g (camera body only)

PowerShot S5 IS
4.60 x 3.15 x 3.06 in./117.0 x 80.0 x 77.7mm
Approx. 15.9 oz./450g (camera body only)

Sounds like the SD850 would be the way to go. Good luck!
