Photo Challenge New Rules

I must say that I'm not a fan of the new photo challenge rule in which the photos must be submitted via PM. I'd like to be able to see other peoples' entries as they come in. This sometimes gives me ideas. It also allows me to see what others are photographing, to avoid similar photos. Was this voted on or just one mods idea?
Before this thread get locked or deleted, do others agree or disagree? I'd like to see this changed IMO if there is support.
Thanks

sending it through pm is ok for me..

but you do have a point about photo similarity..

on the idea part, i think it's better that u come up
with your own idea/composition instead of looking
on other people's photos for ideas,.the topics are not
that hard so i dont see any reason for anyone to
have a hard time thinking or looking for idea in that
matter.

i kinda like it...it kinda gives a more even playing field since u dont know what other people's work looks like and you cant just wait till the end to see what pictures are crappy and good and try to sneak a better one in

what do you need to see other entries for?
to try and one up the people that entered first?
in real contest you dont get to see what other people enter for the most part...when voting commences you get to see what people came up with and the "wow, why didnt I think of that?" factor is present...also this way people cant pull a photo and put a new one because "its wasnt good enough" or they think they can do better once they see more entries

I'm with Cynikal on this.
Use your imagination on the topic, don't wait to see what so-and-so put in then think, oh yeah, I could do that.
Be original, be unique!
Git er done!

the idea is decent

what i don't agree with is the removal of the time constraints..submitting old shots IMO removes a significant part of it being a challenge...you're no longer looking for an original interpretation, you're relying on your 50 dvds worth of past shots

but no, it wasn't voted on so what can ya do right?

i would like to see no names when voting. also i would like to see no voting for your own entry. i like the idea of not posting your pic ahead of time. i always tried to get an early entry so i didnt get accused of copping an idea.

^^^ Agree. It would be nice to see other entries, not for the purpose of copying, but the opposite, to avoid duplicating the same thing. For example, eight different photographs of a watch may be interpretive, but certainly not as interesting as one watch, one sundial, one antique, one monument, etc.

I'd like to either submit something different than I've already seen, or slowly take the time to decide which pic is my favourite, as they are posted. Imho, seeing the photos on display can also provide incentive and enthusiasm for the contest.

It's nice for the photos to be taken within the month's boundary, gives a little more of a challenge.

ok a couple of things....

1. i did alot of research to see how photo comps are managed and organized and came to the conclusion that most professional competitions are discreet (meaning you dont see whats up for competition ahead of time). this keeps the element of surprise and makes you think and be creative. if you want ideas for your entry, the topic is posted and you can always look up photo sites instead of entries from the same competition.

2. the idea behind deregulating the time duration was only meant to incite more people to post entries. it was my belief that some people may not post just cuz they dont have something recent on the topic that they may contribute in the current month. atleast one person PMed me and asked the quetion.....it was kinda weird to say NO.

I dont think any of these two new rules should discourage anyone to participate in these competitions or go out to take new photos. all you need is some love for photography

I agree with people voting blind.
You should be voting for the photo, not the person that submitted it, which I think happens, peobably sub-consiously.
I think images should be submitted with no boarders, no watermarks, no signatures.
just mho.
I don't agree with the removal of the time constraints. If you have been shooting digital for the last 10 years, how many "Time" images do you have? I can easily think of more than 10 that I have on my HDD at home to submit. I'm trying to think of something new though.
Let's go with Szuberi's suggestions and try it out! Why not? It's only for fun anyway!

guys just keep in mind that not every single change will be up for a public vote or discussion. i can say for sure that there will no change in rules that will marginalize or limit anyone in participating in any way whatsoever......but if someone simply dont wanna participate just cuz there is a new rule out there that doesnt even effect you, you are just being stuckup. the time duration issue is understandable i think and we can go back to the original one after this month. again...the objective for this change was to incite more participation.

there are few new things that i have in mind. we will open them up for some discussion/information after i talk with Marty.

Oh, ok...funny 'cause I thought a moderator was responsible for watching over the thread, not changing the entire format.
I guess like trance addict said, lets see how this month goes. I'd just like to see the month photo challenges go as well as possible as I enjoy viewing the photos and posting my own.
Looking forward to seeing everyone's photos!
