Its a Express card 34 UDMA CF card reader for my sandisk extreme iv CF card. I did a basic test to see how fast it would transfer Raw images over. I have my photos sent to a hard drive which is connected to my router by usb cable (apple extreme router). First I transferred the images using the camera, and it took 10 mins give or take a few seconds, for a 502 mb worth of files (49 Raw images). I transferred the same images using the Express card reader, and it took 3 mins give or take a few seconds. I save approximately 7 mins using this card. I bought it off ebay, so who knows how long it will last. It definetly works faster than using my Canon 40d to transfer over the images though.

I'm pretty sure the transfer times would be even faster if I sent the images directly to the hdd on my Macbook Pro.

It a CF card reader for my dslr. My Macbook Pro has a slot on the side, where the reader will slide into. Sort of like how you insert a game cartridge for the original Nintendo. After I slide that into my laptop, I stick my CF card into the reader, and transfer over my images to my hard drive.

This is useful because it requires no wires, no power adapter, and I can use anytime, as long as my laptop has power.

Pretty neat, thanks for sharing. It always takes forever for me to upload pics to my pc, I should try this out, esp for my laptop.

Thanks guys.

So I decided to do some more testing today. So instead of send the images from the cf card reader to my external hdd connected to my router by usb cable. I downloaded the images directly to my hdd on my laptop.

Speeds are wayyyyyyyyyyyyy faster this way. I download 7 raw images, in 7 seconds. I previously did 49 raw images in approximately 3 mins as stated in my initial post. So if I download 7 images in 7 seconds, that means I could do 49 raw images in about 49 secconds...:eek:

You need a UDMA CF card to take full advantage of the speed though.
