Sup guys!

So My name is James, I got a 96 civic dx, silver, nothin fancy done to it, but my ultimate goal is to drop in a B16 vtech, and maybe tart it up a bit on the outside, I would rather not draw attention to it, but know that I can go fast lol. I'm from Cambridge Ontario, so not quite from GTA but just an hour outside of it so meh. I would love some helpful info, and sharing of what I can only assume to be a vast amount of knowledge on these boards, just things I need to do, or look into b4 doin the swap, yes I have looked at JDM, and have their site bookmarked as well lol.

Anyways thanks guys

James

Welcome!
Some of us live many hours away from toronto...
I had a 96' civic HB, upgraded to a B18C ITR... Loved it!
Can eat B16's and sh.it D's.

Either way, once you get the boost of power, you'll get hooked. It's very addicting. Just bought a new car, and have already spents more than I should've on upgrades. Hope you enjoy your first car. Search the forums on what is needed for upgrades. Because there's such a large list of upgrades. From engine mounts, to drive shafts. To replacing timing belts and water pumps before installs.

The only free adive I'll give you... don't buy from tigerjapanese.com Many people will testify to that!

Feel free to PM for ideas.

I already new about the timing belt, water pump drive shaft and ****, and mounting brackets, but I thought the b16 just dropped in a lot easier into the ek, which is why I was thinkin about it, I'm not a complete newblet but I def could use more knowledge, I have been around hondas my whole life, my dad was top salesman at one of the local honda dealerships for like 10-15years, he has a del sol with a gsr in it in the garage, and the b16 looked more in my price range for a much needed initial boost in power to the current d motor in there ya know, but thanks for that info I shall parouse the site more and try to gather as much info as possible all a little overwhelming to be honest still lol, tryin to take in all the info on these boards at once lol

Good to hear you won't need spoon feeding lol.

So what I recommend, if you have specific questions, ask. Moreover, once you have your virtual build, post it and ask for peoples opinions. Though I bought the ITR and loved it, I'm kicking myself for not building a B20Vtec.

And I'm sure any mechanic will tell you, the salesmen stay up front :P We'd always make noise when the saleman come to the shop... Not that they're not welcome, just as a joke. And I'm not knocking your fathers ablity, or yours. I guess I'm just not friendly lol.

well thats the thing he was and still is well liked by the mechanics, and gets **** done for dirt cheap labour wise, and to each his own, my dad can sell icecubes to eskimos ya know so if thats ur skill shoot it right, if ur a mechanic then play that tune, and my dad was only a salesman by choice, he has had many a fast car, he grew up, drivin like the old big block muscle cars, and doin all the **** on his own to him, but he's a school teacher by day and salesman by night, or was rather lol

ok and as for specific questions...
It's gonna be a daily driven vehicle, don't plan on doing any too fancy exterior work or anything, have always been a fan of the sleeper style car ya know, so whats the best bang for buck motor to throw in that would probably be easiest to do a swap with, I am a University student, and sorta strapped for cash, but I have a good knack at saving up money, so I know I can do it eventually, and any other like really good reliable aftermarket brands that you would suggest for all/most of what would be needed to get every bit of horsepower out of it, or just a good mix and match of the best from a bunch of very good companies? I'm more of a computer nerd by trade, and basically had my old 2.4ghz quad core runnin at 4.2ghz and 20degrees cooler at idle then with stock cooler and ****, so I can understand and appreciate the process, and understand that some people are just like, aah its only 1more hp here, 1 there, but those add up and thats where u see the difference, cause it was like that with comp cooling, ye this block gets a 1-2 degree difference over this ___one, and I am not by any means a single company fan boy, just wondering like, if there is one who's parts are a good kinda like benchmark to look at, and can work around based on numbers they get and comparisons ya know?

Welcome to the forum. Build threads are always interesting, if you decide to share your progress of the changes you're making. When you're ready, feel free to make one and post up pics.

Welcome to TCC.

I would not bother with a b16. Most people hate me for this but whatever. i would choose a b18vtec or b20vtec or b18b1+boost.
b16s are quite pricey and arent even that fast. a b18b1 can be had for quite cheap. quick motors. as long as you use a shorter gear transmission or even stock ls, its a LOT of fun. and with an LS swap, you can then choose to go either vtec route or turbo, allowing you to go step by step, and either choice will yelled more power than a b16. but thats just my opinion.

Hope you enjoy your stay, there is a TON of info if you just search for something. if cannot find something, don't be shy to ask.

PS.F8i, d-series is the way to go, dont hate haha. built d-series turbo is just awesomeness on wheels. hahaha

and from what I have been seeing I have seen the b16's costin a less then the b18's, and from other forums I was reading isnt the b18 significantly heavier, and the weight of the beast ends up making the gains seem not quite as apparent as the b16 in just a bare swap without doing anythin too much to em, albeit the b18's have better displacement right? and what is a good place in the GTA, and if u know of one maybe out kitchener way that I could find me some a motor and good price?

which b18 engine are you talking about? the b18c, the GSR and ITR engines are more expensive than b16s but the non-vtec b18b1 are cheaper.

I was actually just reading about the b20's but reading tha a lot of them being prone to cracked cylinder's esp at higher RPM cause they aren't as thick as the b16/b18, and you have to get a lot of outsourced parts, or find them, seein as its from a crv and its not as easy to do a complete engine swap out with everything there and ready to go, but yes they are cheap and I saw that, so IDK I gotta research **** more, unless you ***** got other info about the b20's that im not finding out so far

b20s have weaker sleeves. i would personally go with b18 for turbo. but again its just my opinion.
to be honest i would LOVE to build a d-series for boost.
