New to Forum: question about my repair
 

Hi everyone-
I think I got ripped off on a repair and would like an expert here to tell me what I should have paid.
I live in the Wash DC area. The repair was done in Oxon Hill, MD
I needed to replace a lower ball joint
With tax and everything he charged me $860
I have a Honda Civic 2004 EX with about 180k miles
Parts
Lower Ball Joints 2 of them, $175.32
Cleaner $7.98 (He told me something about cleaning the oil off the engine)
Shop Materials $15 (Don't know what that was for)

Okay the fun part....the labor
Check Noise in Front Suspension using Steelman Chassis Ear to Isolate Exact Location Left Ball Join $160
Remove Left Front Steering Knuckle And Press Lower Ball Joint in Portal $245.00
Remove Right Front Steering Knuckle and Press New Lower Ball Joint in Portal $245.00

I called another shop after the fact and lower ball joints repair costed around $500.

So let me have it. Did the guy doing my repair have any legitimacy? How much did he really rip me off?

P.s. Where is the affiliates area for checking quality shops in the DC area for Honda Civics?

Regarding the matter of "approved vendors", we don't have a specific listing for the Washington area, only a few in the Toronto, Ontario area.
