hey guys (and girls) , me and my friend are going to be building a civic to take to the track ! this will be my first honda i mess with. i sign up to get as much info as i can and also because its a local forum. we are currently shopping for our car. we are looking at a 98 coupe not sure what trim right now. anyways hopefully i can meet some people here that will help me with info a long the way.

So you're shoping for a track car eh... What kind of tracking? Drag, road course?

#1 for any track car, the less weight the better. EK coupes are a little on the chunky side when it comes to civics, they are generally a couple hundred pounds or so heavier than the hatches. (I know, I have one)

It's good to start off with a car that is light weight to begin with. I would recommend an EG hatch as a shell to start with. (92-95). They are very light to begin with, can be easily dropped below 2000lbs with an engine and they are a little more slippery (aerodynamic) than the EK (96-00) body style. You can jam in any engine you wish and the aftermarket support for this chassis is enormous.

If it's going to be a road-course tack car for lapping and time attack, don't go banana's on power. Instead, consentrate on suspension setup, brakes and tires first. Once the car is handling prime, then add more power. But don't go crazy. Useable power is more important than peak power.

road coarse and time attack, defently will be focusing on tires, brakes and suspension this year. the reason for the coupe is that we are gettin for less than $500 so thats what we got to work with. i would prefer an EG hatch. i am still familiarizing with the honda engines from what i read so far i most likely will be doing a hybrid setup but that wont happen for a while so i got time.

Easy answer for power setup is k20 on boost. A small turbo to get you out of the corners will make you very very happy ;)
