Lightbulb Just bought my first civic!

Hey everyone, new to the site !

I just recently bought my first car, i'm seventeen, I bought a 2007 Honda Civic ex coupe..

I love my car, but i'm not getting the amazing gas mileage everyone else that has a civic rages about!

Not sure what it is but I am only getting 400 - 450 km's to a tank, my car i manual, im not driving it hard at all, i shift low around 2000 - 2500 rpm's, never higher than 4000 and even that is very rare for me to be shifting at that.. any suggestions why I am only getting this low of km's to a tank?!

thanks,

Shaun

Hi there Shaun, first and foremost, welcome to TCC!

I'm an 8th Gen. owner as well. I have an FA1 (07 LX Sedan, Auto) I also get 400km-450km on a full tank on average. Mostly downtown city driving for me, with a few occasion highway trips. I get 550km-650km if it's all highway. Even after my last tune-up, the before and after mileage were pretty much the same.

P.S. Feel free to shoot any other questions you may have about your FA1.

"I shift low around 2000-2500 rpm, never higher than 4000."

^ So, you've never hit VTEC yet? Hmmmmm...I find that bull crap :P

Welcome to tcc!!!

450 km a tank is not that bad, specially during the winter months people tend to get less mileage

It also depends if you drive in the city or highway

and shift higher. cars are the most expensive thing you'll ever buy and yet no one ever reads the owners manual. I bet if you did you'd find in there recommended shift speeds, and I bet they require you to rev higher then 2500. You gotta drive your engine in the peak efficiency range to get maximum economy. Too high and sure you'll burn too much fuel but too low and the engine needs to work harder to mantain the same speed. It's called lugging your engine.
