Hi TCC
Just did my second front brake job and to check the left caliper as Honda dealer said the piston boot had a tear. Looked at the caliper and it looks like a small tear on the edge of the boot and no grease coming out. Probably wait for spring and warmer weather to replace the caliper with a rebuilt one. Honda dealer wanted $768.00 to overhaul the one caliper, replace the pads and turn the rotors. Checked out CT and they have rebuilt Fenco calipers for $98 + $40 core charge. New Monroe rotors & pads on sale this week. Worked on the pad replacement with my brother in law who knows more about cars than me but he didn't know to keep the pad bracket on the hub to change the pads so we took the entire caliper off with the pads attached to change. Made it more difficult and also cracked one of the new pads and made it useless so had to reuse one of the old pads. Live and learn I guess. Found the easiest way to change the pads on a Civic front brake is to remove the bolts that hold the slider pins. The piston housing comes away and you can sit it on top of the rotor while you replace the pads. A lot easier than holding the entire caliper and trying to change the pads.
