Welcome to the site, Monopoly.
For snow/winter tires, it's best to have a seperate deticated set of steel rims. Use the smallest rims that will fit over your brakes (14 or 15"?). This will keep the cost of tires down and help the tires perform better in snow/ice. For tires, go with a narrower width but keep the overall diameter as close to stock as possible so your speedometer will read correctly. There are online tire size calculators to help determine what is the correct size (just google "tire size calculator"). It doesn't really matter what snow tire you buy, as long as it has a nice soft compound, deep/knobby blocks (for grip in snow) and lots of sipes (small cuts in the tread, which gives you grip on ice).
Good luck.
