Hello TCC! I really need ADVICE from all you Experts!

Hey everyone.

My name is Neil, and I am a student at Humber College in Etobicoke. I am taking 3D Computer Animation.

One of my personal projects is to design a Civic that is futuristic, yet retro. Here is my concept so far. I took the front from the 2009 version, only because I have one. At this point, the steampunk aspect at the back isn't really working. I talked to my profs, and they said, incorporating some aspects of old civics may work better. I agree.

I have just been having trouble finding retro civic aspects that could be incorporated with my design, that say "Honda Civic" to all hardcore fans. I was thinking that adding these parts and making it look like one may work better than 'bolting' old parts on.

I really want to keep my door design at this point, because I love the mechanics. Other than that, throw all your ideas at me.

I would really appreciate it if I could get some feedback.

Thanks, and glad to be part of the TCC!

Here was my initial concept:

Then my 3D - Work in Progress:

My NEW Concept - Work in Progress:

Welcome to TCC

I've noticed that the front follow aerodynamics while the back end seem to press inwards towards the cabin. i.e. comparing 8th gen civic from 6th and 7th.

Definite skills and welcome.

But I don't like the car you've designed. Whats that huge contraption on the back? Isn't technology make things like Hybrid engines, and Ipods smaller as we proceed into the future?
I think you should listen to your teacher and just put a normal rear end on the car. Use the Civic EG HATCH for the rear. "Bubble butt!" that would spark the true Honda enthusiasts memory.

Front end is mint and your ridiculous at what you do though none the less.

Thanks for the comments everyone. Its a tough job to create artwork, and get praise, so I appreciate it.

Harrold - You are right! That back contraption was me getting out of hand. I checked out the HATCH that you recommended and I agree. That back would really help the design. I am glad that is something that will spark memories, because I couldn't really decide what was.

Also, I really like the front end, but does anyone feel I should incorporate something retro into it?

to TCC.
Good intro thread, an interesting concept you've got there.
Lots of helpful suggestions above, and probably more to come.
Enjoy the forum.

wow...that looks sick bro...looks like a s2000 and del sol put together
it might clash with the s2k
you got to keep in mind..its a civic, so its got to be affordable since its one of Honda's economy class...so getting it all geared up with a crazy back like that isnt going to make it original..

this is how ur back will look if you get too fancy with the back end

but that would look sick...s2k front and nsx back

but all in all, im very impressed with ur skills and creativity
i know its easy to criticize....so two thumbs up!

looks proper... i especially like pic# 2... only thing i'm saying is the components for the front wheels might look cleaner if they were behind the wheels as opposed to in front of them... also if the windshield was tapered down a bit it would look a bit more balanced... jus my 2cents... but good job mayn, crazy talent

Welcome to TCC! I enjoyed the second picture, I feel if you fix the back it will be complete. I feel you should do something like the CRX rear that is def a classic civic. The upcoming CRZ is incorporating that. I hope its not a convertible? Other than that, as stated above, I feel it should be kept "family friendly" due to it being a Civic, which is a economical family car.
I like the front, no need for "retrofying" it.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys! I am in the process of changing up the rear.

I am thinking of going with either the rear of the EG Hatch, or the CRX, because they are classic designs for sure.

Exlr8r - Now that I am redesigning the back, the engine will be back to its original spot.
Sumol15 - At first, I was thinking it should be a convertible, but I see your point of it being an economical family car. So I will look into that as well.

I will have an update soon!

it doesn't have to be economical.. Maybe you should go for a higher end model of a civic. Just like mazda 3 have the speed 3.. It´s about time civic comes out with a higher end model ! Like a civic type r kind of thing
