Recommend a 250cc to 500cc

Hey fellow riders,

just recently bought a brand new Piaggio Fly, i know i know. not much of a motorcycle, and thats excatly why im making this thread.

i like the get on and go factor of a bike, and the gas milage is def. a plus, but the scooter is just...underpowered. its almost like i have to take it somewhere, instead of it taking me somewhere.

anyway, im looking for a motorcycle for later this year, or even next.

a 250cc to 500cc is plenty for me. and i want a "crotch rocket" a ninja or a cbr or gsx-r.

or something to that effect.

thanks for the advice

first if you have not rode a sport bike those will be 2 much for a first bike. if you are migrating from a scooter and want a sport bike get an entry level semi sport like a f4i or a sv650s learn to ride before you move into a full sport. i went through 2 entry semi sports and finally monved into a full sport. but hey thats my 2 cents
ask any experianced rider here you might get the same response
cheers

ive been looking but some options, i really like the 250R ninja.....and every opinion ive found says its great for a beginer, so what do you think?

I remember some dealers use to sell a band new bike 150-250??. (something small), all the leathers, and riding lessions for under 4 grand..

anyone remember that deal??..

05CivicSi 23-Jul-2008 08:49 AM

The Honda CBR125 came with jacket, pants and boots for $3500

k_r_a_c_k_e_r 23-Jul-2008 08:50 AM

^^ maybe it was that.. I thought it came with lessons too?

05CivicSi 23-Jul-2008 08:52 AM

Don't seem to remember anything about that, and no one mentioned that when I looked at one a week or so back. Must be some one else?

k_r_a_c_k_e_r 23-Jul-2008 08:54 AM

Maybe I was just dreaming that.. lol.. still not bad for $3500!

ive owned anything from a 2 stroke aprilia SR50 to a 06 Gixxer 1000.
I can honestly say the new 250R is a great bike. Its a hoot to drive in the city. On the hyway its decent. It can cruise at 130 no problem...

make sure you pre-order your 2009 model otherwise you won't be able to get ur hands on one

and they are right.. .the cbr125 is $3500 ish.
Personally I ride a lot on hyways, so I wouldn't reccomend it. but if you don't go on the hyway much its great in the city.

Honestly having all the power of a 600 Super is useless in the city. Even on the hyway I can honestly say i've only pinned it 3-4 times this year.
IF you want a SS look at the SV650.

Dexst 23-Jul-2008 10:47 AM

i think an SS sv650 is wayyyyy to much for me. im still loving the ninja

if you get at of the japan imports make sure you're handy with a wrench and don't mind waiting weeks for parts to arrive

my friend has a cbr 250 and the bike has yet to see the road

Dexst 23-Jul-2008 08:20 PM

looks like its going to be the ZZR 250 ninja, does any one have an opinion about the CBR 125? i think its a tad to small.....250 seems just right

05CivicSi 23-Jul-2008 08:40 PM

the cbr 125 is not a highway bike

Dexst 23-Jul-2008 08:59 PM

yeah, thats the one major thing ive been looking at, is there any difference between a honda and a kawasaki when it comes to reliability?

Dexst 23-Jul-2008 09:54 PM

I'm a diehard honda girl so ....

Personally I think that Honda builds a better machine - they take a lot of neglect and abuse and just keep hummin.

I've got almost 85000 kms on my bike and have never had any engine work done to it - and I've done road trips, track days, 1/4 racing ..etc.

Dexst 25-Jul-2008 11:41 AM

well i ran the numbers with the insurance, a 250 ninja would be roughly the same about a car would be in a year, and the CBR125 is only a couple hundread more than what im paying now (1500 for the vespa and 1780 for the CBR)

also, with the cbr i get a 3 year warr. with 24 hour roadside asst. and it comes with all the leathers (jacket, pants, boots and gloves) which is wicked.

and the cbr can pull 95mph(135kmh) pinned....... so i will be able to take it on the gardener. woot!

anyone have an thing to say? by the way, thanks for everyones advice

Dexst 29-Jul-2008 07:50 PM

Dexst 11-Aug-2008 03:24 PM
