Any other motocross riders out there?

Anyone?

I ride a Yamaha YZ400F. Just traded my snowmobile for it. It's one heck of a bike. Trench-digger I call it...lol.

Since most ppl here probably live in the city (or what I call the city) and not out in the country like I do, I don't expect to see to many moto-Xers in here.

i use to ride dirtbike when i was younger actually i learn to ride a bike using a Yamaha YZ 125 pretty fun offroad or trial riding love to get a dirtbike again the only problem is that there isnt really open area to ride dirtbikes in around the city unless to live outside the city (country location) perfect for 2 have a dirtbike

LOL....I fell the opposite. I will not ride a bike on the street because it's the other drivers I fear will not see me and hit me. I almost killed my friend when I pulled out from a parking lot at night and his head light blended in with the street lights behind him. He slammed on his brakes and managed to stop in time and I managed to peel my tires and get out of the way in time.

I have also seen about 2-3 bikes go down right infront of me on highway 11 and highway 118 near bracebridge this summer. One guy got locked up in heavy traffic and another guy nailed him from behind which caused a chain reaction. Nobody dies but the one guy had serious injuries.

I'll stick to riding motocross. The YZ400F is a scary beast no doubt. Lifts the front wheel in 4th gear without trying, and with a bald rear tire. But I only have to worry about landing on the dirt and grass, which I would gladly take over pavement road rash...lol. You just have to learn how to handle the bike in both cases I suppose.

humm... maybe i should try dirt bikes...

i just see those video's of people going down and getting smashed...

not to say street bikes are safe, but atleast i can wear all my armor and feel somewhat safe

where do u ride dirtbikes?

MPR 21-Nov-2007 07:09 PM

^^Mostly around my house and the neighbourhood. there are a few tracks around. I do some track riding but mostly trail riding.

Biggest jump I've ever done was probably 60-70 feet at about 7-8 feet off the ground. Feels like your a million miles up and your floating forever. Its' awsome. Not the biggest jump in the world, but for the average rider, it's a good amount of air.

I once ran over a train track and went 1 foot in the air... i slammed back into my bike... pulled over and was rolling on the ground for 10 minutes...

i think im stick with 2 wheels on the ground

LOL, yeah it can definitely give you a scare, especially if your not expecting it. And street bikes aren't exactly designed for hang time either, so the landings have got to be pretty rough...:haha:

fingolfin 26-Nov-2007 03:49 PM

alright i think im gonna try a dirt bike out... see how it goes

any surgestions?

want something low powered and light...

MPR 26-Nov-2007 04:19 PM

I started off with a 1982 Honda XL125 4 stroke trail bike. Then I found myself craving for more power so I stepped up to an 87 yamaha yz125 2 stroke.

I suggest you start with a 125 2 stroke because they are full sized motocross bikes yet they don't have so much crazy power that you'll kill yourself first time out.

It also depends on the type of riding you want to do. Trails, motocross tracks, fewer jumps, lots of jumps....

fingolfin 29-Nov-2007 11:37 PM

few if any jumps... i like wheelie dirt bikes.... does that count for anything:)

the smaller the better i guess...
anywhere I can search for a bike?

MPR 30-Nov-2007 06:58 PM

^^Boat, Bike & RV trader has a lot of affordable bikes in there.

Start off with a 125 and go from there.

I'm looking to get back to the dirt. I started on dirt many years ago just after the last dinosaur gave up his life so we could pour him into our tanks. I taught our kids how to ride on a little dirtbike and they love it. If I can scrape up the cash I'll be getting a couple.

fingolfin 09-Jan-2008 12:29 PM

so i rode a dirtbike recently... I managed to throw myself off it going around a corner....clearly the rear brake is not my friend ...

grrr

I stick to the streets and highways.. I picked up a brand new 2007 Suzuki SV650 in June, and loaded 12,000km's on it. It's a fantastic all around bike. Fuel injected V-Twin, full fairing, gel seat, Hindle slip-on, Custom undertail, Flush-mount Gixxer front signals. Dark grey metalic, and the frame and wheels are all black. It romps down the road, and sounds good doing it too.

Who else ride's street bikes on this forum?

Terry
