I'm sure they all watch out for each other (other cops, firemen, paramedics, etc) but I figure this French guy was a bit of an ***. Might have been an a-hole with the officer that pulled him over. He deserved it.

Yeah, no doubt. The cop should have gone after someone who was more deserving of being given a ticket. Imagine the nerve of that cop, stopping the guy just because he was doing 70 km over the limit and passing another car while approaching the crest of a hill.

I'm not meaning that guy should have been let free of it. In general there isn't major crimes.. 70 over is nuts

The real problem here isn't that the firefighter got nailed. The problem is that the HTA does not exempt emergency vehicles from being impounded under s.172.

Ontario law also requires a minimum 45-day impound of vehicles found being driven by people who have been disqualified from driving following conviction on certain criminal driving offences, but the HTA specifically exempts emergency vehicles from impound in such cases.

This is just common sense. Suspend the license of the driver sure, regardless of who it is, but the public interest is not served by having scarce resources like specially-equipped emergency equipment sitting in impound. I'm surprised thatthe government didn't provide a similar exemption when they enacted the racing/stunting law.

By the way, comments on a firefighter forum about this are kind of interesting. A bunch of firefighters don't seem too upset at all by the incident and figure the driver had it coming to him.

Another twist is that both the driver and the impounded fire truck were not from Ontario, but from a Quebec community. http://www.firehall.com/forum/showth...threadid=17176

Say that again. I hate going through that stinkin province. I wished they separate back in 1995 during the Referendum so it'll be a shorter drive into the Atlantic Provinces LOL!!!
