i thought that at first also, but by switching the body instead, he kept the awd from the subaru, the narrower base, and had to do no motor/tranny/awd capable modifications. also the wrx's chassis is much more stiff and is proper for the engine in it

Im in no way saying it was a bad idea or executed poorly, its a GREAT idea and seamed to work out great for him. I think it looks great. My ONLY problem with it is all the kids that see his work are gonna try to do the same thing with little to no welding or fabrication experience and their going to kill themselves and whoever is in their path. Still, amazing car though.
