Saved her from the scrap yard! (pics)

Well, been working on this 86 744 ti for over a month now. Got it for free from a guy who was going to scrap it. Had a few problems as some of you know. Most of the issues the car had, were very simple fixes, if one just took the time to look for the problem.

I learned a lot from the guys over on turbobricks.com, and couldn't have fixed this car up so quickly with out their help.

So now she is all fixed up and ready for the open road. Came to me running like garbage and now it's a totally different animal. I've done some mods (upped the boost with a turboXS mbc, straight exhaust, changed the air intake etc...). So without further delay, here are the pics as she is now:

^I installed a naca duct to bring fresh cool air right to the air filter. (you can actually see the filter in there...lol)

^A look at my hack-job from the underside...lol.

And the heart of the beast, the B230FT:

^The cheap $75 autotechnica bov that seems to work flawlessly, no compressor surge and no boost leaks.

^The boost gauge (with actual numbers!!!) and the afr gauge. I still have the factory boost gauge hooked up because the aftermarket gauge doesn't seem to want to light up, even when wired properly, so at least at night I can still have an idea of whats going on boost wise.

^The entire exhaust system. No cat, just straight off the down pipe, all 2.5"dia into a cherrybomb vortex muffler, then out the side. It sounds great. Gives off a nice low rumble. Fairly quiet with a nice bark at full boost. No droning inside the cabin. Almost sounds stock with the windows up besides the whistle from the turbo.

So thats the freeby that could. Enjoy the pics. The only thing left to do is put a new set of fog lights on her and get some plates!

(I probably should have posted this in "other imports" section.....lol......oops)

Most of the time free cars are junk. This is an exception. I hate the look, but its probably a smooth quick ride

It's definitely not slow....especially after bumping the boost up to 12psi from the stock 8psi.

It's also lighter than it looks and it's rwd.

When are you going to ditch that belt driven fan for an electric?? I do believe the 94 grand am (grand ams from that generation)?? will bolt right on. You will either need a switch or something to turn the fan on at a certain temp. The engine will also sound alot nicer w/o the fan spinning not to mention a boost in power.

BTW, nice job so far...

I am going to do an electric fan for sure. Thats next on the list. Probably just use a toggle switch with a relay. Last time I tried to do an e-fan with a temp switch, it didn't work and almost over heated my truck.

The naca duct I got from CSC racing in newmarket. Was originaly going to be put on the hood of my SiR, but I thought I'd practice on the volvo first in case I fudged it up. lol.

They are about $25. You can get them in black or clear plastic.

Ahh, I knew I shouldn't have shown the naca duct, now everyone's going to copy!....lol. jk

Not really going to track it. May dyno it, but thats it. The clutch is the original with 228k on it, and it's a little soft.
