Sorry if this turns into a double post. Was having some issues.

On Sunday I decided to clean out the TB & IM.. Since I can't be bothered with Halloween and annoying children, I happily stayed in a heated bay all night instead.. Working on the car. My initial goal was to take apart the EGR and clean it.. but a specific tool is needed and it seems nothing else will work. It's a 23mm Crowsfoot. Princess Auto didn't have one... and neither did Canadian Tire. Gave up on that for now and just focused on cleaning up the sensors, re-checking the vacuum lines, changing some lines, Re-positioned the CAI again, Custom bracket was made by Rob to hold the sensors, and CAI in place...

I took some pictures.. Took me 4 1/2 hours with some breaks.


Ew. Throttle Body & gasket removed. Intake valves are caked.


Throttle body is super caked.


Sat in cleaner for 1hr and then cleaned. Much better!


Got off as much as I could. Will be taking off the Intake soon and cleaning the runners and valves more. The angle was weird.


One of my coolant lines snapped (You can see new clamp).. Thankfully I had a new bottle of coolant in my trunk, so all went fine.

Car runs much, much better. More pick-up, Adjusted TPS but still need to fiddle with that a little more.. All in all, This is a fun DIY. I recommend it.

How did it run after you cleaned everything?

Wow, what a difference between the before and after.

The car was a little weird at first... was making some very interesting noises but seems to have settled now and it's running well, much smoother at idle and over all. It also seems to have better pick up Quite happy with the outcome.

You should Seafoam it too.

I am nervous about seafoam. I have read many good reviews and very bad reviews.. So I haven't touched it.

Good work ! That was some nasty carbon buildup.

I cleaned the intake last year as well. I used a product called Revive, found at Partsource.

+1 for the sea foam! I've done this to my car and my wife's car with no issues at all. Just follow the directions and you'll be fine.

Used seafoam! works great but ive heard about things going wrong also. Apparently it mess' up ur gaskets or something like that.

I have used it on my 89 prelude *rip* and my current EG. Worked wonders on both. Mind u when i did it on my prelude fire trucks came cause someone thought it was on fire.
