Matt's build thread

Hey everyone.
I guess this is kind of my first official introduction post. I've been a car ***** for a long time and always dreamed about buying myself a tuner and working on it and created a work of art on wheels.
Long story short, because of insurance, I knew my dream wouldn't come true, so I bought a motorcycle instead because the insurance is so much cheaper. Well, **** happened and turns out I had to get a car for work, so my family and I made it work.

Low and behold, I bought my first stock civic in August. 99 civic si coupe. 5spd. Stock d16y8 engine and tranny. 240k km's on it. MINT. No rust on the quarters. New suspension, new clutch, mint interior. One owner, old guy bought it new in 99 and drove it daily till he sold it and bought a new car.

The day she came home.

I had big dreams of an engine swap and such, but that was dependent on selling my motorcycle. In august I put her up for sale and began to wait...........and wait.........and wait.....and finally, just this past week, I sold her. So my engine swap began.

I called up the guys at Abstrakt Motion. Dropped them off some cash and told them to find me the cleanest jdm type r they could.
They called me the next day. They found an importer who had the cleanest type r they've ever seen. They went out and checked it out and bought it for me. Dropped off my car thursday night after the shop had closed, they began work promptly on friday morning tearing out the old one and cleaning everything up.

Tear out...
Old engine..

Empty engine bay...ohh the rust... it has to go..

The obligatory standing in the engine bay picture..

And then the engine arrived. First time I layed eyes on her. I can be seen in the pictures molesting her with my hands...so clean.

Then we began to inspect her and noticed a few odd things like...

MUGEN oil filter!? ****en awesome!

SPOON LSD TRANNY!? WTF!?

Will update with LOTS more pictures as the build goes on. (you should see how clean the engine bay is now...no rust..) Also doing a rear disk conversion and rear trailing arms and all, as well as the ITR exhaust and a NICE muffler.

Bottom line? If you want the best parts, and the best quality work, the only place to go is Abstrakt Motion. Tell them Matt sent you. They'll take amazing care of you..

Yep, couldn't edit that post, but she's in my garage nice and safe. Will update with more pictures shortly. Everything works GREAT. They even got my ac, power steering, abs, cruise control and EVERYTHING working. A lot of custom work went into this build and I'm very happy with the outcome.

Can't wait to get the pictures up. They're on the girlfriends camera, should have them shortly.

Abstrakt does it up big. Everyone knows it at this point. Where's the pics of your swap! I hear your b16 swap looks clean and tight!?

As for my pony, pulls VERY hard. Taking some getting used to. The throttle is INCREDIBLY responsive compared to my old d16.. I blink, and I'm at 6 grand on the rpms...Doesn't take much to get her going.. I LOVE it.

All in and done.. *drool*

Now that she's home with me and everythings running well, I'll have to take some pictures tomorrow upclose and such in the sun. Everythings running amazing, everyone at Abstrakt did an insane job, much props to them. I can't thank them enough for the incredible work they did on my car.

And I also have to thank my girlfriend for driving me around for 6 days, even to Abstrakt just to check on my baby multiple times in a day...

No confirmation on anything internal. Don't know if I'll ever really be able to unless I find someone who WORKS for spoon. =P

What I do know is I'm loving this new engine and I can't wait to get my type r suspension done... Then it'll be even more fun to drive.

And yeah...I cheated on my car with my girlfriend...damnit...

Somewhere down the line I will get it on a dyno. When I can afford it... This swap cleaned me out but it was totally worth it.

Over the winter I have to get my pswrdjdm 3-point upper strut bar and whale ***** intake.
Spring, get all my body work done, suspension and new shoes.

That should be it for me for a while. Maybe somewhere down the road, turbo, but not for a while.

Thanks for the comments guys. Maybe I'll stick my head out if there's a meet next wednesday.

I had a few pm's on here too from people going, "Why'd you do that, you shoulda done this or that". You post stuff on the internet you expect to get people who don't agree with your opinion.
As for, yeah, there was one guy on there who was busting my *****, but enough other people stepped in and told him off. He builds boosted cars, I wanted n/a. I wanted to have a conversation and he thought that his opinion is the only one that matters. We have enough people on here like that. =P

Getting back on topic, I do need to post more pics soontime!

I know, I know, I'm bad. Especially now that the new exhaust is on. I don't think I'll ever put any other exhaust on any other car I own, ever. The apexi world sport II is incredible. So shiny too

I don't think he was telling you what to do, or saying you should have gone boost.

I think he asked you a legit question that a lot of people consider when going type R or GSR. This question is: if you had $5000 for the swap and labour, what would you buy, a stockish Type R or a GSR with wilder cams, cam gears, aftermarket header??

The reason is because with the same money, its been proven time and time again that you can have a faster motor with $5,000.

I think this is what the dood was asking in . I'm interested to know as well.

Regardless though, nice swap. I know someone with a spoon tuned JDM Type R and it was quick.
